Best Ride to Ride at Night

A seat on big shot facing the strip is amazing at night.
Hands down Nitro. Right next to the river/lake, barely any lights, just flat out speed with no clue what's ahead.

Millenium Force is good, but there's lights being next to the road and everything.

Tina, what was the Tiki Torch ride like after dark?

Any great woodie gets better at night.

I think even the mediocre woodies like High Roller are much better at night. They just seem to come alive and offer a lot more pop (air, laterals and speed).

For flats, I nominate Fireball at SCBB (KMG Afterburner, I think - similar to a Frisbee). The atmosphere of the park adds a lot at night (including the salty smell of the ocean), but mostly it is the unbelievable lighting package. When the ride kicks into INSANE mode the last 30 seconds and spins about 50% faster, the lights go hyperkinetic into a multi-hued strobe effect. Fantastic airtime and total sensory overload. The ride is very good during the day, but it is special at night.

Other versions of this ride (Knotts, Celebration City, Hersheypark, etc.) use a different ride program and the experience pales in comparison.

Haven't been fortunate enough to get a lot of night rides on coasters, but Millennium Force last season in August, after I had stood in the pouring rain and gotten soaked, and it finally stopped and they let us on and we went over that first drop.....best ride of my life.

My vote goes to the beast.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Nothing, for me, compares to being on Magnum, at night, under a clear sky. Especially as you crest the second hill, with Lake Erie in front of you. That moment is just magic.

To name a few.....

Santa Cruz Giant Dipper, Megafobia, Texas Giant, Grand National, Ghostrider, Nemesis, Montu, Stampida, Beast, S:ROS (SFNE), Nitro..........

In fact, just about anything except Magnum and Pepsi Max Big One. *** Edited 4/3/2005 8:59:20 PM UTC by Martin Valt*** *** Edited 4/3/2005 8:59:55 PM UTC by Martin Valt***

When i rode milly at coastermania ert in the front row last year, I could not see the bottom of the hill going down, it was like i was parachuting out of an airplane.
Front-seat rides on any invert are great at night. IMO, Alpengeist edges out Raptor for top spot.

The best night flat ride is Condor at Six Flags La Ronde. La Ronde has lots of carny-style flat rides with lots of lights, which you can see from the top of Condor. You can look out at downtown Montreal, or look straight down and get dizzy as hell. :)

Favorite night-ride that is no more was Drop of Doom at Fantasyland (now called Galaxyland) in Edmonton. While it is an indoor amusement park, the top of DoD was inside a glass tower and you could look out over the city before the dramatic free-fall. FYI, DoD was identical to Demon Drop at CP. The indoor version was much scarier. (It was the only time I ever collapsed at the exit of any thrill ride.)

My most disappointing night-ride was Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at MK. Because our eyes adjusted to the darkness, the special effects in the tunnels were very weak - they looked like dirty styrofoam. Daytime rides were definitely more magical because in the dark tunnel, I could imagine the dirty styrofoam was actually falling rock.

At the beginning of the morning ERT they also had the floodlights on the TTD tower off. Howeveer, it had a rollback after the first couple runs and by the time they got it reset the sun was coming up and they had turned the lights back on anyway.

I'd put in a vote for Whizzer at SFGAm also.

"Heavily medicated for your safety!"

Not a night ride but something I'm jealous I missed was the day TTD and MF literally went up and into the clouds because it was so foggy. Anyone know if TTD peaked above the fog? That would've been AWESOME!!

But then again, what do I know?

Oh wow going down into heavy fog that has to be fun.
My number one woodie at night would be Thunderhead followed closely by Rampage.
I was just getting to the end of this thread and was like "How has nobody said Rampage yet?", until I just saw Steve mention it. I've ridden allmost all of the U.S. heavyweight woodies out there in the dark and the one that for me has the most startling day to night transformation is Rampage. It literally becomes a different coaster as the darkness falls. Ah man, now I'm getting fired up for RRR again in June.
I like ALL amusement rides better at night, and ALL parks seem more magical to me after dark.

Of the rides I've ridden, some that really stand out as incredible night rides include The Boss and Screamin' Eagle at SFSL, Mindbender and GASM at SFOG, Rattler at SFFT, Texas Giant at SFOT, Steel Eel at SWSA, Mega Zeph at SFNO, the Texas and Georgia Cyclones, the defunct MSAP Starliner and PB Zephyr, and just about any mine train coaster that travels through tunnels and dark woods.

I also love Arrow log flumes at night if they have a woodsy setting, and drop towers for the breathtaking view of the entire park at night.

I am looking forward to trying Rampage and Thunderhead at night, hopefully this year since they are more or less in my region.

MF at night is worth waiting until closing time for, it always shoots to #1 after a night ride. You cant see the bottom of the first hill!

My first ride ever on Twister was at night, after a rain. I had no idea where I was going next or any idea of the layout. It was amazing.
