Best Location for a new theme park

Reno, Nevada? It snows up there, we want more year-round parks! hehe...

"ok everyone go ahead and pull down on your shoulder restraint so you feel nice and stuck!"
A park near College Station, Texas would have the benefit of plenty of potential employees (near Texas A&M with approximately 40,000 students) and still be reasonably close to Austin, Texas and Houston, Texas.

I can dream, right?

If someone was to start up a new park in Indiana, I'd be there! Fun Spot up in Angola was a good spot to build a park because of the tons of lakes up there. Many people vacationing with children were looking for something new to do, and now an amusement park is just a few miles away.

But in recent years, the owners wanted to get out, and they even held an auction to try to get rid of their coasters. The prices didn't go high enough, so they weren't sold.

When suggesting a location in Indiana, I'd suggest midway in between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. The market would be similar to what SFGAm has going for them...being in between to metropolitan areas. This would be a smaller scale market, but if you're just starting out, that's not necessarily a bad thing. There is tons of flat farmland in Indiana, the only problem I see with land is that it might be a hard sell for the farmers. If you had a few million to invest with, you could build a coaster similar to Shivering Timbers to get on the map.

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

l. On Georgia. Couple of the trade magazines this month have stories on a group of investors who are plannin a new megapark in Georgia. They think the market would bear one more. Also, there's a park in Valdosta nobody pays any attention to, but it has a ton of rides.

2. Holiday World will probably be your Indiana megapark. It is expanding slowly but has big plans. The directors are just being careful not to over extend themselves.

3. Waldameer Park in Erie is growing slowly and no one pays much attention, but it's become a really nice park with a guaranteed summer crowd due to the lake resort trade.

4. Someone could probably buy Camden Park in West Virginia and pour a 3 million dollars in. It would be far enough from competition, but with several interstates coming in (it borders I-64).

5. Lincoln-Omaha (Neb.) is the metropolitan area which is furthest in any direction from any major park. It would have to be considered.
CPGenius: Well wish me luck then. Cause my new amusement park venture is going to be located between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne(Exact site unknown but it will be along the White River)

Very cool! Good luck on the amusement venture.

By the way, did you e-mail a whole bunch of people about this yesterday or today? Because I got a message about "mosspierp" and I didn't know what the heck it was so I deleted it. Oops! :)

I hope your investment is successful!

Jeff (who understand that unfortunately it sure does rain a lot in that area, particularly closer to Seattle)

Jeff, contrary to 'popular' belief, it rarely rains here in the typical coaster riding months....May through September.  I know you know that, but I like to enforce the reality a little bit.:)  Seattle actually gets only 30 inches of rain a year, with the clear majority received between November and March.  Heck, BGW gets a TON more!  We are very fortunate to get as little rain as we do, and still have an incredibly green forest land to live near to.  Six Flags will do very well with their park here, once they get their heads together, and get the park rolling.  We need something really soon.  Nobody wants to have to travel 5+ hours to ride something interesting (ala Silverwood), so you are certainly right.  They are sitting on a gold, nay platinum, mine up here.  Hope they 'mine' it right, if you know what I mean.  That might get Oaks and Silverwood really rolling too, and next thing you know...POW!  Coaster heaven???  Hope so.......

Greensboro, NC or Raleigh, NC.  Carowinds really only serves Charlotte and either of these cities is centrally located to eachother and Durham and Chapel Hill.  Greensboro also has a Wet n' Wild so maybe a park could join with that.  Carowinds isn't that great(except for Top Gun) and without some competition, Paramount will never add anything cutting-edge.  More competition would make everyone happier except for maybe Paramount ;)

Yes, Nasai is SOOOO correct. Being a Phoenix resident and a frequent visitor to the NW I can see the need. Seattle's "rainy" season is during the winter, which would probably be open only on weekends if at all. The summers are gorgeous and well tempered. Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the U.S. and claims a revamped putt-putt course in a mall parking lot as an amusement park. What a joke! Just an hour up the road to the north is mild temperature mountain regions, allowing Summer visitors and year round operation. If someone had an idea to enclose the ride Queues and air-condition them (which was my idea years ago), then Phoenix could easily work. There are many states west of the Mississippi, but only Texas and California can boast REAL theme parks. Denver has two small theme parks. SEATTLE area and Phoenix are goldmines waiting for developement. Unfortunately, the major theme park operators (SF,CF, etc) are more concerned with purchasing small or under-developed parks that can be re-constructed into major theme parks. This knocks Phoenix completely out of consideration, for C & C is at a mall, and not expandable.  Somewhere in the LAS VEGAS vicinity is another goldmine.

Only Colorado people would probably know what i'm talking about, but how about on Green Mountain?  Theres lots of land around there, and it would get a huge amount of buisness, being near the interchange of I-70 and C-470.  Probbaly not likely, but it would still be cool.

I have always wondered why Hawaii doesnt have a park. Its a tourist spot and the park obviously could be open year round. I am surprised Disney hasnt jumped on this.

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL
about the only reasons I can think of for having no park in Hawaii are these:

1. Can you imagine the expense of shipping flat rides, track peices, and other resources via barge to the islands?  That would cost a pretty penny.

2. There just might not be enough room on any of the islands anymore to build a decent sized park.

3. While a lot of people do go to Hawaii, i would imagine that only a small amount are theme park goers.  The only Company I can really see succeeding there is Disney, because they appeal to families so much.

Just my two cents

Arkansas! We have Magic Springs, has one woodie and we just aquired a Mine train wooooo hooooo *sarcasism here*.  If you put it in the proper location, Eastern Arkansas, you could make a killing because Memphis, they have Liberty Land but the last coaster they built there was in the 80's,  is within an hour and a half drive from my house, Mississippi is too, and Missouri is only a two hour drive. The land is all flat in this region and it would just overall be a gold mine.

sorry, mikerose2. Though Arkansas may be a geographically good choice, and in need of some entertainment, the fact remains that the area is in NO WAY a tourist destination. Nobody plans trips to Arkansas unless its business or family related. Sorry. Sad but True. :(

"Somebody" (un-named source) was looking into developing an area in the southern outskirts of Phoenix as a theme park. The area (Gilbert) was in an uproar, and the whole  e  just died.

I would have to say that even though Las Vegas has many rides at the casinos, they need a full blood theme park.

What  about Montreal???  I know SF bought La Ronde but that parks needs a LOT  of work.  Save the Monster and rebuild it entirely

What do you guys think?

I know LoadedG , it is truly sad. Arkansas, if you've ever been here and looked around, has alot to offer. But the politicians in this state has done a great job surpressing the state in every way they can think of. That is why I stated Eastern Arkansas. Tunica,  Mississippi is a huge destination for gamblers. I would like to see an amusement park go in down there, that way not only can I get free drinks , and lose lots of money. I might be able to ride some rides without drive for 6 to 10 hours to find a good park.  My problem with the Midwest states is amusement parks is like water up there. You have 2 billion different parks to choose from, well use southerns have like two parks to choose from, of course this isn't going to stop me from my Ohio coaster trip next summer.  From what I can understand Arziona could really use an amusement park and a baseball team that can beat the Yankees!

Las Vagas does need a theme park.  It has too many scattered coasters.  It needs a park where there are many grouped together.  The new parkwould have many advantages.  Las Vegas is warm all year round, has plenty of room(except on the strip), and has little competion.
