On top of the first lift the chains starts going faster, than slows down while you hear a roar (I just started to notice the roar last season), before speeding up again over the crest of the hill.
AE does have only two lifts, who know what I was thinking.

The funky light on top of the Phoenix is way cool along with the orange and yellow flags on the lift and turnarounds.

In no particular order (actually, in a pretty rotten order):
The ride kicks off with these gates opening, and your car shooting off into darkness.
This puffy little dude looks over the station. Come to think of it, he looks a bit like the ordinary secretary who for one reason or another has to risk her life by climbing out the window on the 42nd story.
Outside, one of the puffy dude's friends hangs around over the sign all day. The word 'coaster' is what got me the first time I saw it - complete with dull flashing lights, it looks like something right out of 1920's Coney Island (or that episode of Scooby Doo where the gang was chased around by the robot who operated the old guys park).
On the elevator lift, because of the mechanics of the thing, its track widens to allow the two pods to pass each other, which means they tilt riders on the way up. By using rows of lights inside (obviously this was taken slightly before the building was complete), they really emphasis the tilt.
In the main queue building, these guys show signs of a hard night before, along with plenty of other wacky medieval style tidbits (suits of armour whose heads follow you along).
Plus, on the actual coaster section of the ride, you've got the lasers (and then some), which taken an ordinary indoor Mack wild mouse, and turn it into an ordinary indoor Mack wild mouse with green lights (actually, they've got some very nifty effects happening with the lasers - if you're in the neighbourhood, give it a spin).

Chaos at opryland was an entire nice touch...thumping bass, scary sounds, and that 80 passenger train. If you ever rode this thing, it's something you havent forgot.
The low flying bats in the Gold Rusher at Kennywood...they actually scare me every time.

Track Record: 62 coasters at 17 parks.
I love the corny jokes on the signs on Dudley Do-Right at IOA. The fire on Spiderman (when timed right) is a good addition to the ride.

Well, I used to be able to see TTD from my house, then I moved.

I'm kinda surprised nobody's mentioned the thumping bass soundtrack played on train dispatch on Nemesis Inferno.
