Batwing Flying Dutchman announced for Six Flags America

Posted | Contributed by batpete

As reported by CoasterBuzz in December, Six Flags America will build a Vekoma Flying Dutchman coaster for the 2001 season. The ride will be similar, if not identical, to the one being built for Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Ohio. This one will be called Batwing.

Bob 0,

There's always that little coaster thats being built at King's Dominion, it's very slow and takes forever to reach top speed. God, I wish I could remember that name. Hyper, hyper somthing. Ahh forget it, it's not going to be a good coaster anyway.

X-Flight @SFWoA!
This flight won't be cancelled!
Yes,this kicks soo much butt, do you think that the coaster will be ready by spring break time, cause that is when i am going to d.c.:)

You will be STANDING for more at Six Flags over Georgia.
I think X-Flight still wont be good enough if
SFWoA wants to dare compete with CEDAR POINT. I like Cedar Point better. Everything there just is better. Cedar Point will just stick it's old way of coasters and X-Flight will be a waist. Though I still like the idea of a coaster like SFWoA is puttin in. I lt sounds cool but I don't care for the theming
First Bob-O, I would say from last year's construction of S:ROS which started late also, that it will be running for your trip to the area (I believe Superman opened on May 16). Now Jasper875, you're about a month late on the Cedar Point vs. SFO/SFWOA debate which everyone has declared tired. And if your going to insult X-Flight make sure you use correct spelling. The word you meant was waste, not waist. Yes they sound the same but have completely different meanings. I think you also meant to use the word "putting." Believe it or not it has a 'g' on the end of it. Thank you.

the flying coaster/fourth dimension coasters for six flags will end up EXACTLY like the slc/b+m inverted situation. Lets see- parks like sfmm, sfot and all the larger sf parks get a fourth dimension. Then, all the smaller sf parks (well most of them) will get the vekoma flying dutchman.

Keep the coasters comin'!
after having season passes to SFA for 3 years, hats off! they just get better.

and by the way, THE MIND ERASER and THE WILD ONE are exclusive designs to SFA that have not and will not be cloned, and we created the originals of JOKER'S JINX and ROAR.

ALL HAIL THE BATWING!!
Yo Frank, I like SFA as much (likely more) than the next man, but some of your statements there are not true. Yes Wild One is unique, and yes, ROAR! is the original. But there are about 15 coasters just like Mind Eraser (the ubiquitous SLC) and Jokers Jinx was like the FOURTH 'spaghetti bowl' coaster (I believe both the FOF's , PKI &PKD, and Poltergeist @ SFFT came before). Still, SFA has a nice collection, and I personally dont care if they can be found elsewhere.

It is a shame I moved to New Hampshire from D.C. I've had a SFA (AW and WW) for 9 years and know that park will be rockin'. I overheard though a possibly of another ride up for approval too???? As for the clone debate I don't really care either way because any coaster is better than no coaster at all and Superman last year rocked. I will try to make it down this year but no promises. I better hope Canobie Lake Park all the sudden gets the steroids that SFA (formerly WW) did in the past ten years.
I cant wait to visit SFA in july 2001. It will be my first time there and my first flying coaster. It would be better if it was a B&M but its still going to be an extrodanary coaster. Now all they have to do is get rid of the painful and terrible jokers jinx and replace it with a B&M inverted coaster. Its a shame that wont happen for a really long time.

P.S Down with premier rides
I haven't been on any Flying Dutchmans, but with all the Vekoma coasters I have been on, I don't trust this type of roller coaster to be all that safe. Now I might be wrong, but don't you think their seat belts are the worst? If any of you have been on SRoS, you know that the seat belt are a pain in the butt to take off. Frankly, I would feel much more confident in Batwing, if it was made by B&M. *** This post was edited by RollerCoasterChica on 3/10/2001. ***
