Batwing Flying Dutchman announced for Six Flags America

Posted | Contributed by batpete

As reported by CoasterBuzz in December, Six Flags America will build a Vekoma Flying Dutchman coaster for the 2001 season. The ride will be similar, if not identical, to the one being built for Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Ohio. This one will be called Batwing.

Read the press release on the Six Flags site.

Go SFA! Hands down the best name and color scheme of the year! The 3 park combo of SFA, BGW and PKD is on my list for 2002.

Thank you Disney, thank you...
Looks like a great coaster. Hopefully they fill it to better capacity than they do in the video, though!

I can't wait to stand in line...
Great more Purple and green track. Where does Batman connect with Purple & Green?

Green? Maybe you might want to check your computer's colors 'cause that sure looked yellow to me. I am so happy. We here in the mid-atlantic are treated to two (some might say four) stunning rides, Batwing and H:XLC (and to a lesser extent distance-wise Talon & Nitro). This is going to be a lovely summer!

--P.S. Too bad they didnt give an approximate opening timeframe
Maybe it was my screen, but it looked like Medusa colors almost. Maybe it is the shade of the color of yellow or something.

The Batman being developed at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. Do they mean Batman Knight Flight which already exists or is Six Flags building a new one this year as well? I thought the only new ride would be X-Flight?

YES! Now I have yet another reason to doitch classes and go to Six Flags> Yayyyyy!

Peace, Love, and Rollercoasters.........we need more of all three.
This is probably just me, but I think the name "Batwing" is awful. I keep thinking of "Dark Wing Duck"...

Wow, I'd love to see Six Flags show Paramount how to make a REAL flying coaster! So far, this looks the best of the bunch! Just what SFA needed. I'll have to drive out to Maryland this year now as well...
I really like that Logo! I think Six Flags took SFWoA's X-Flight Animation and Changed the colors and the backround! Anyway it looks great! Thank god for DSL!!! *** This post was edited by Zero-G on 2/15/2001. ***
Batman Knight Flight colors
LMAO, how does this one look "the best of the bunch?" Unless you're talking color scheme, it's exactly the same as X-Flight going into SFWoA this year.

Either way, I *do* like the name, and the color scheme. At least it has different support colors than the other four Vekoma's (three Deja Vu's and X-Flight). They're TOTALLY Medusa colors, though.

Still it's should be a great addition, hopefully they can operate it well.

Legendary, who will be riding all three Dutchman this year.

hmm..i see a slc like cloning frenzie happening in six flags parks future!!! Except this cloning frenzie will be with the vekoma flying dutchman. I mean don't get me wrong. I think the flying coaster concept is awesome. I just wish some of the layouts could be unique and individual. Oh well.
They seem more like the X colors to me, but in reverse.

So, Middleman, does that mean I get to complain since I'm riding them all? ;)

It's also funny if you notice how almost every single coaster at SFA is a clone. We've got ROAR (the original, and not quite exact same as the other), Two-Face, Joker's Jinx, SRoS, and now Batwing. Even still, those are some great coasters there, and I will definitely be visiting this year. It's like they get the best rides of the SF chain, which is pretty cool, but I'd rather have originals.

Looks like SFA is gonna give PKD a good run for its money this year. (5 coasters in three years...wow!)

How is yellow and purple like lime green and dark blue?

Actually Legendary, SFMW works in much the same way as SFA. Kong(Vekoma SLC), Roar(CGI wooden twister), Medusa(B&M Floorless) and Vertical Velocity(Intamin Impulse). I like this because you do get the best from other parks, but I agree with you, I would rather have the original. As far as the FD? You will definitely complain once you ride them. I'm not a big fan of Vekoma, and Stealth is lacking in almost every way. However, Batman and X-flight do get extra points for traveling on the outside of the corkscrews. As for them being clones? I still say it doesn't matter because even if you ride all three this year, all three of them aren't in your homepark. so how many times will you actually ride all three, twice? Maybe three times? Just doesn't compare with the millions of other who will only ride ONE in their lifetime. ;)

Uh, Jeff? I thought my statement was pretty clear.

Millennium Force said So far, this looks the best of the bunch!

I then replied: LMAO, how does this one look "the best of the bunch?" Unless you're talking color scheme, it's exactly the same as X-Flight going into SFWoA this year.

I don't know how you read it, but what that statement meant, besides the color scheme being different, everything else is exactly the same. "Unless you're talking about color scheme (meaning that yes, the colors are different), it's exactly the same as X-Flight going into SFWoA this year (meaning track specifications, layout, what have you).

Sorry to confuse, but it sounded good to me!

Middleman, while I do live in IL, I go to SFWoA a lot, around eight times last year, most likely even more this year. So I guess you could say I have a Dutchman at my "home park" ;)

How many inversions will be on this?
