Batwing Flying Dutchman announced for Six Flags America

Posted | Contributed by batpete

As reported by CoasterBuzz in December, Six Flags America will build a Vekoma Flying Dutchman coaster for the 2001 season. The ride will be similar, if not identical, to the one being built for Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Ohio. This one will be called Batwing.

Read the press release on the Six Flags site.

Woohoo! Another quality ride for SFA! Clone, yes, though I don't hold being a clone against S:ROS. I can't wait to ride this baby, and as a bonus it should drive down the lines for S:ROS.

I'll tell you what, how many of you would turn down a S:ROS if it were offered to your home park, because it's a clone? Not many I suspect.

Thank you Disney, thank you...
This coaster will contain 8 inversions.

I would, because my home park already has a better hypercoaster. ;)

Legendary, who thinks some people are getting too stressed out on this whole clone thing. If some people prefer original rides, that's their perogative. If some people enjoy riding coasters that aren't original, that's great, too.

Millennium is spelled with two N's ;)

Unique and individual isn't in Six Flags vocabulary. Neither is customer service or capacity.

So I assume your homepark is either CP or SFNE. ;)

Boy I wish I had bet some people about this announcement back in October when I first overheard it in line for Two-Face, but even I was a little skeptical at the time. I'm glad I was right though.

Now, who cares if a coaster is unique. Bob who lives in California doesn't care one bit if his Roar is a clone of a coaster in the mid-atlantic. He's probably never even heard of Six Flags America. The only people who care about this stuff are snotty enthusiasts (and they're plenty of them). I wore my SFA t-shirt to SFO and not one person had heard of it. Six Flags is simply bringing rides to the people instead of the people having to travel long distances for the rides. They get my applause.
Heh, Middleman, not quite. Home park is SFGAm. :)

As for clones, HOW CAN THEY MAKE A RIDE THE SAME?! I PAY GOOD MONEY TO RIDE NEW COASTERS NOT THE SAME OLD ONES OVER AND OVER! THAT'S IT, I'M NEVER GOING TO RIDE ANOTHER CLONE AGAIN!

(this post is absolutely *dripping* with sarcasm, doesn't it sound rediculous?

SFA is really becoming a solid park; and anything Batman themed is alright with me.
i want a batman themed coaster at SFMW. i mean i like vertical velocity but i was kinda hopin 4 a S:UE. i know this sounds wierd but i guess it would make SFMW be a bigger part of the Six Flags chain :/
Hey Hypersonic,

SFMW is a big part of the Six Flags Chain! Why do you think SFMW is competing for bragging rights against nearby rival PGA? Look at what Six Flags has done for SFMW in the past 2-3 years. They've added some of the best rides in the world, new shows, and new animal exhibits. Can't you see that? I really do not think SFMW needs a Batman themed coaster anyways. They've already got Kong.

Who didn't see this coming a mile away??? Same thing they did with "Batman: The Ride"

They'll end up flooding every SF park with one in the next few years I'm sure.
Well, then if it is like that the 1st will always be the favorite which is good for SFWoA
Anyone know exactly where this coaster will be located at SFA? From the movie clip it appears to be located behind S:ROS but I can't tell where the loading platformm will be located.
The loading platform seems to be next to JJ, onthe Superman side. As for the clones, the more the merrier:). A coaster is still a coaster, clone or not. Would you rather there be no coasters that were not clones? We would have to rip out allmost half of the coasters around because they are clones in one way or another.

Peace, Love, and Rollercoasters.........we need more of all three.
You all have been reading the news WAY too much lately, what with all this cloning talk. Anyway, I love great rides, and Six Flags has got them. A little originality in theming, naming, landscaping, or EVEN, dare I suggest, track layout, would certainly improve the whole park experience...
Thanks to a Comcast @ Home kiosk at the mall I got to see the video today (my old Mac won't play videos unless it's in Quicktime:(. I thought I was hyped before, now I really can't wait till it opens. Props to who ever did the video. By the way Wild One, Batwing is behind Superman, not in front of it. If you look at the still picture on the website you'll see the furthermost helix on S:ROS behind Batwing. For everyones info, SFA opens on the strange day of Wednesday April 11 which is earlier than last year's April 15. Could a March opening be far behind?
The station will consist of two train track one on the left and one on the right. There will be a total of 3 trains which holds 24 passengers per train, 4 abreast, 6 rows. And will open on May 26, 2001 *** This post was edited by spaceman on 2/16/2001. ***
Does anybody have any idea when this coaster will be completed? We will be visting in the area in early June and have been debating about going to Six Flags America and Paramounts King Dominion. This would definately be a factor in our decision.
