Atlantis... Are They Nuts!?

It is in my first post also, I got the link from ThrillRide.

I agree with you DMB17, not necesarily about scraping looping coasters completely, but focusing more now on their woodies. You never know, in 5 to 10 years they could have the reputation with us that CCI has with us now.
They just need to start bringing them to the U.S. in BULK!!;)

I think you americans are just very jealous because us brits are gonna geta superb coaster that is gonan rock, you wait and see;)
Also I cant believe People are saying this coaster will be boring and insane etc when it wont be open until April 2002, you are all being silly, its impossible to judge a coaster before its been built and ridden.

Just admit it and say that you wish you were getting one of these as well in the US :Þ I personally think this coaster is gonna rock and make Thorpe Park stand out as an excellent park to visit in the Future.
5 barrel rolls? That's insane. I wish B&M designed it. They would probably build it so it had 10 inversinos of course, but they are all spread out across a twsiting and turning circuit.
Lets call for what it really is!
5 barrel rolls ... A pretty cheap way of getting a World record if you ask me.
Will Consumers like 5 barrel rolls? Me thinks not.
Could B&M build a 10-inversion coaster? Of course. Why haven't seen one? Parks want people-friendly rides not spin and pukes.

I doubt the designer's are just being "cheap." I'm guessing the park requested something like that, don't ask why, maybe the park wanted a record and was "cheap" so they said "hey, make 5 in a row if you want to!" Just my opinion.

V2, Deja Vu... how can it be better? Add Viper! Oh, wait. It's already there!

I agree with PaulD that all of you are just bashing the coaster before it even opens!

Especially since it's located over seas, I think that sparks even more hatred for this coaster (admit it... it's hatred when your wishing B&M would make it or calling it 'insane' or 'boring').

Let's put it another way...

What if this coaster was to debut in Cedar Point near its new Boardwalk expansion?? What would you think then? It'd make you go ballastic with enthusiasm! You probably couldn't possibly retain yourself, and be there day in & day out with construction photos and other rumors!!

C'mon people... it's going to be an awesome coaster. I am pretty sure that Intamin has tested this coaster design over & over on CG computer models so as to not make it too dizzying to the average park goer.

It's common sense.
They aren't going to build a coaster noone can handle or like!!

I wouldn't even be a big fan of this coaster if it was going to be built in my homepark. Sry, but I hate when people make statements like Dawg Bite's.
3 heartline spins in a row is a cheap, cheap ripoff to get 10 inversions and then say, "We have the coaster with the most inversions! We have a record! Love us!"

It's true, though...

You people are selling yourselves short!

Not really a record breaker, but case in point:
10yrs ago, if you heard a coaster was going to go 0 to 80 in 1.8 seconds, you'd say "That'd tear the skin right from your face. The G's would be too much! Cheap way to get the record of the fastest take-off".
Same can be said about Millennium Force about it's height & speed.

Give it a fair chance. I'm pretty sure this isn't build souly for the purpose of breaking the amount of inversions.

It won't be long before that number is matched, and eventually (though not in the short run) surpassed.

Was Millennium Force souly created for the sheer fact it was over 300 feet and breaking the height record for tallest coaster in the universe? No. It claimed that record for a short while, but it was created because it was a new idea for a new coaster, and wound up as the #1 coaster on a lot of people's lists!!

It's not as bad as you think...
Just give it a little time.

I think it sounds intense. But has intamin steered us wrong latley? No, every intamin coaster in the past 5 yrs. has been insane and awesome. I think they know what they are doing. By the way where is thorpe park, i'd like to check this out.

RCman4
I started this arguement about them being "cheap" to get the world record. Putting 5 barrel rolls IS a cheap way of doing just like adding two cobra rolls to get 4 inversions would be cheap as well ... I have no doubt Atlantis will be an awesome ride either way ... what I am saying is, it is a pretty cheap way of getting a record. And No! Being an overseas coaster has nothing to do with it at all ... All Coasters are overseas to me!
In the age of higher, faster, longer, better ... more inversions doesnt rate with me as much as it may have in the past ALTHOUGH as a selling point and to put a notch in their belt, I can see why they (Thorpe Park) would want that record.
Realistically, if you told me it had 10 different inversions THEN I would be impressed .... trouble is could we name 10 UNIQUE Inversions?

- Immelman
- Diving Loop
- Cobra Roll (2 inversions) and it sister ...
- Sea Serpent (2 inversions)
- Straight Loop
- Zero-G Roll or Heartline twist
- Corkscrew

... Umm anybody want to help?

Inlcine Loop
Cutback/Overbank

I love the barrel roll/ zero G roll style elements. I wan't to ride this coaster!
I don't know if a "sea serpent" is the same as this...
but a Pretzal?

It's a half corkscrew then a half loop, into another half loop, and then a half corkscrew again.

Six Flags Darien Lake's Viper is an example, and it's what they have always called it.

Dragon Mountain has something similar at Marineland, Canada... but instead of coming back in reverse direction, it keeps going on. I think the 2nd half corkscrew is just reversed.
Dawg Bite, The inversion(s) on viper is called a Boomerang (arrow) or a batwing (b+m), And a sea serpent is a cobra roll with one side reversed. The double inversion on Dragon mountain is called a Bowtie.

Just trying to help.

Ps- Hey roomie!
I thought (and know) that a boomerang is a half loop, 2 half corkscrews, and a half loop again...
(ie: The Boomerang coasters at almost every six flags park!!)

As far as I know, it's still called a Pretzal because it's the reverse of a typical Vekoma Boomerang.
10 iversions WOW

FEAR THE FOUR
Drachen fire what will happen to it?
I doubt it's so much Thorpe Park being cheap. It's more to do with the 100ft height limit and ground too "soupy" to dig many pits in.

I cant see how this coaster could be bad nor cheap. it sounds like a lot of fun and 5 barrel rows in a row doesnt seem too bad. And yes they did that for the record but u cant say CP didnt make MF just because it is a great ride. They wanted something never achieved before just like magnum was and we all loved it. Some rides are meant to be record breaking and some arent. What do you think would bring in more people, a great coaster that doesnt have any special features or a record breaking coaster that stands out and people from all over talk about it.

For example, look at sw5 and this ride Alantis, do u guys realize how much commotion we have made about them and i bet most of u would definately like to try it out for yourselves.

Coaster Hate?

Guys and gals, you need old stick-in-the-mud types like me in Forums like this just to get your juices cooking by putting in comment like 'Cheap way to get a World Recorld'

How else would these threads last so long?

As for Coaster Hate, I have nothing but Love for them and my fellow Riders ...

It has nothing to do with how it's designed, but what the designer wants to call it. I say it should change, and all of these should have 1 general name. Boomerang, cobra roll, pretzel, corkscrew, he--, even vertical loop could be a name for the "bowtie" on Alantis if the designers wanted to call it that.
