Hmmm, I have been known to say that many times. If your quoting me I'm flattered.

I wasn't quoting you. Great minds think alike.

Why build new when you can fix the old? ( Copy and Paste link )

Great link, CoasterKrazy.

So has anyone actually seen this service used by a park? I can think of a quite a few that would benifit greatly from a little mordern day tweaking.

SFGAM should have used that service on SW.

PKI's Vortex needs that, maybe even total track replacement. It's gotten BAD

How tall are you pkidelirium?

I've noticed that when I ride Vortex with my shorter friends, they usually don't like it very much because of the headbanging. I on the other hand, love Vortex and haven't experienced ANY headbanging at all since they re-painted it last season. I think that guests around 5' 7'' in height and below experience the most headbanging, due to the rough transtitions. In my opinion, Vortex is the best ( old ) Arrow looper there is. Fast, intense, and for me, smooth. Doesn't get much better than that!

I'm around 5' 7", lol i'm just at a bad height i guess!

They should modify the old loopers with adjustable X-type restraints to eliminate the headbanging

do the X restraints limit headbanging? if so do you think these restraints might replace OTSRs as OSTRs did horsecollars?

I am one.
I am Turbo.

It may happen. PKI continuely improves there coasters. Let's hope.

Trying to answer your question Turbo:
(for reference, I'm 5'7" and the OSTR on your average Arrow looper sits near ear level for me anyway)
The X restraints fit pretty much like a vest so you don't bang your head around on them. There's no part of the restraint that goes over by your ears like your typical OSTR. It's a snug fit and is pretty comfortable really. Hope that clears it up a bit.

The X restraints are comfortable, except that for me (5'8") Viper and Steel Phantom and other older Arrows didn't bang my head around too badly, but X beat my neck up something fierce, because the restraint was located at mid-neck. I don't understand why they don't just go to a semi-padded restraint like on the Vekoma Dutchmen? Those restraints don't hurt one bit, and I'm sure that it'd be a relativly simple retro-fit.

PittDesigner:

Did you have the restraints on X pulled down to your shoulders? I haven't been on X, but I have seen video and pictures of the restraints, where they are pushed down to the riders shoulders. Just wondering.

One of the coasters shown is Six Flags Great Adventure's Great American Scream Machine. The transition into the midcourse brakes was replaced. It helped a great deal, I think, as traditionally, it seems like that particular transition is always the worse among Arrow loopers. Drachen fire also comes to mind, where I found its worst, and probably only bad transition to be the turn up into the midcourse.

Wha? Online. . .street. Online. . . street.

Vortex is my favorite steelie at PKI, so I would rather them do nothing to it. Of course, I like SOB and Vekomas, so maybe I like it for the reason a lot of people are disliking it, lol.

Yes, I was stapled in there quite well, just that the height of the restraint put the top of it at my neckline, and when my head was banging back and forth on the last raven, it banged into the restraint there, which bent my neck all funky.

I also enjoy Vortex the most of the steelies at PKI, although this past year, FoF gave it a run for its money!

Would be possible to retro fit Vortex in the same manner as Flight Of Fear?

I don't think Vekoma has done any since 1993. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong in these analyses.

Vekoma has done the Millenium Roller Coaster at Fantasy Island, England in 1999. (However, that's not in the U.S., but it's supposed to be a much enhanced Vekoma ride experience... in terms of roughness).

man PKD really ought to invest some of that retrofiting into Anaconda. the first hill, the tunnel, and the pretzel loop are fantastic, but everything between the midcourse breaks and the final corkscrew is just awful and ruins the ride. if they could just smooth out that middle section, this would be like a brand new ride!
Vekoma also did the looper at Park Asterix, Gouderix as well as the Rock N Roller Coasters. Does anybody know if Gouderix is notoriously painful like the other Vekos?

Remember, the big reason you don't see very many new Arrows going up in say the past 6 years, was first off, many parks have a looping coaster, there are so many more varieties of coaster now, Arrow was having several financial issues, Arrow haden't come up with a new, hip product in some time, many of the larger Late 80's early 90's coasters were problematic, Euro designs were more appealing, and Arrow changed many hands.

I think if a ride like TT had more exposure, we would see a few more of them pop up. The coaster is very enjoyable and has no headbanging and has a lower height requirement than many of the new rides going up.

Marketing their Mad Mouse Idea did very good for the company as well. I believe that they should design and market another new family style coaster as well, something like a Vekoma Roller Skater or something of that sort.

Now that they have the financial backing through S&S, I can see more installations in the future. Besides, Arrow were bought by HUSS back in the early 80's before Arrow got out of debt and bought themselves back, I think we will see the same situation here... but you never know
