Announcments that were a big let down

I dont know about all of you, but here is my story....

Last year, on my second trip to PKD i got there really early to get on hypersonic for a shorter wait. while me and my friend were waiting we got a conversation going with the security guard for that gate. he talked about how they get to test the rides and get free rides on everything before the park opens up. he also said that the brakes on hypersonic's "ascending" side of the tower are there to keep the ride from going through its course too fast for anyone who didnt know. after a while i asked him if he knew when they might be getting a new coaster. he said "next year" being the 2002 season. he said he didnt know what type, he just knew it was a coaster. after that day i kept thinking about the possibilities of what it could be, but i was hoping on the lines of a vekoma flying, a intamin hyper or impulse, or absolutely anything from B&M.

Finally, after months of wondering, there was a link on coasterbuzz about PKD's new coaster. i took the link to the site and read about hairpin turns, tight drops, etc. on the top of my head i just thought for some reason a compact intamin or B&M(wild mouse just didnt come to mind)until i continued to scroll down until it said something about a wild mouse. i was so upset because i just loved superman and B&M's are always talked about(by the way, Incredible hulk and DD's are excellent rides!).

anyone else have a simillar story/experience?

Wouldn't that just be your fault?

i was dissapointed with the changes to v2

Wouldn't that just be your fault?

Not trying to be greedy(hypersonicXLC is great)but im sure everyone has some kind of hope for something before an announcement. it was just upsetting to me that after the guard saying they were getting a coaster, a wild mouse after hypersonic just wasnt something that came to mind.

Well, he's wrong. (Like they train security in the working of the rides!) They are for rollbacks, which happen quite often. Ask 2Hostyl about it!

You listened to a security guard about what the park was getting for the next season, what were you thinking

Im disappointed with Great Adventure's. It's all shows!
Even though I knew about these things and 2 showed up early last year.... If the annouced The Chiller lapbars, Viper, RT's improvements, and Alcatrz, it would have been better.

Just and opinion.

Yeah Peabody is right you can get all the news from the dippin dots guy and sometimes the ecology people.

No Peabody, the only thing that comes from the Dippin Dots guy is small pellets that stick to your tounge when you first get them, then turn into funny tasting melted ice cream. Oh, and he is also a reliable source to find out what he learned from his friend who operates the scrambler who talked to his ride supervisor who talks with the park GM who just got off the phone with corporate and found out that the park is going to get a 350 foot tall B&M flying coaster.

well, sort of........

about last month, I was at disneyland on the big horse carrige down main st usa. The man on the back was answering some tourist questions, so I asked him about the tower of terror and when it would be opened, well, he said it would be opened very soon with a small themed area in the farm area. This was a few days before the official announcement. Well tower of terror is coming, but by the time it's here, I'll be in college, probibly closer to walt disney world!!!!!!!!

Why would you expect a park to build $10 million+ coasters year after year?

It generally takes two years for a park to pay off a major coaster. When you see Six Flags doing that, they are not making any money doing it. In years past, they could justify this to their shareholders by producing increases in attendance in revenue, but only increases....not a turn to profitability. With the weakened economy and cautious investors no longer willing to hear about what will happen 'real soon now,' those days are over.

Get used to minor investments the year after a major one. It's what profitable parks have always done....and what the speculatively financed, non-profitable parks will have to do, too.

I wouldn't be let down by the announcement of a mouse, because they could be getting nothing at all.
I agree with The shy one, while a wild mouse isn't as exciting as a B&M it's better than nothing,I for one can hardly wait to ride Ricochet.

I'm a little dissapointed with Wicked Twister. I was really hoping for a nice sized CCI or any type of vertical dropping coaster, but oh well. I don't have to much to complain about though, my home park is getting America's first flying coaster. I would've never though SFOG would expand with a better ride than CP in a given year.

IOArules, Wicked Twister is vertical dropping, twice. It's just a twisted vertical drop. I don't see anything that is disappointing about WT, it's a larger, more extreme version of V2, how can it be bad in any way? If anyone would find a hypercoaster disappointing, they need a mental checkup, and quick! Nothing can be bad about a hyper.

Trbigger, thanks for clearing that up about the dippin dots guy! :)

Peabody - Wondering how Dippin Dots can still be the ice cream of the future after so many years.

Typical, anytime there is ever a comment about CP that isn't completly positive someone has to get all offensive. Did I say there was anything bad about it? NO! The main reason WT is dissapointing to me is that my favorite part on V2 and SUE were the vertical holds. Another reason it is dissapointing to me is that SUE will be 3 years old and it is less than 2hrs away from CP. It's not the actual ride that is dissapointing, it is the fact that CP's newest expansion is dissapointing compared to the things they've goten in the last decade.

I can't think of a single disappointing announcement. With a few good reasons to boot:

1. I don't get my hopes up and set myself up for a letdown.

2. I appreciate anything any park does to improve itself whether it be new rides, shows or just landscaping.

3. I understand that this is first and foremost a business and the parks aren't there to cater to my every whim.

As long as you understand those three points, you will NEVER be let down by a future announcement by any park ever.
