Amusement Park Advertisements with Roller Coasters Not Actually in Advertised Park

Tekwardo's avatar

People don't forget there's a park nearby. But when you haven't got plans and the kids see a billboard, they remind you they want to go anyways.

To answer the original question. Parks that advertise rides that are not in your park of choice really drives me nuts! I remember when they had the Mr. Six ads playing for SF Great America, you could tell that the racing coaster in the commercial was Collosus, and not the American Eagle. The general public might not notice these things, but I certainly did.

the worst offender for me was of course MA. (Before Cedar Fair) they advertised three new rides. Adventure falls, Chaos and Be Bop Blvd in their season brochure. Yet when we arrived at the park to ride them, the only ride that was open was Chaos! Be bop Blvd was under construction, and there was no sign that Adventure falls was even being built.

Adventure falls was built two years after the original brochure came out, and Be bop Blvd was completed several years later. In fact, I think it was completed by Cedar Fair. I wasn't that surprised.

I notice that Cedar Fair tries to blurr out the logos in their coaster commercials. I notice one of the coasters they show in the MA commercial is actually mean streak, and not the Wildcat or Timbers.

I didn't do it! I swear!!

I really enjoyed that big post, Techno. I can't agree with all of it, but is was great.

And I also enjoyed Timber-Rider's post right up there. ^ I can understand both sides of this argument. My only concern is that it really is easy and takes very little time to add a different photo or clip to a advertisement, either billboard, print, or video, especially when you have your announcer already saying a different script for the advertisement, and you are already placing a different logo at the end. With just a little bit of extra time and effort, you can create something unique for each park.

I know that Cedar Point has it's own marketing guy who walks around sometimes and photographs and videos the park. I'm not sure if the other parks do. Perhaps Don Helbig takes on this job at Kings Island, because I've seen him running around the park with a nice camera as well.

Anyone can take pictures and video stuff these days. I'm sure more than enough content is created to make unique and awesome commercials for each park. I'm sure a billboard or print ad takes very little time to work on no matter what photo is chosen. Unique video will take longer, but not so long that making a unique commercial for every park is out of the question.

I've never worked with professional video. Can anyone here give a god estimated time to edit and create a high quality TV commercial?

Wait - I almost forgot... I love the joking around here. It keeps the friendly vibe going around. I've said it before: I imagine we are all standing in a circle, discussion this stuff in person, laughing and acting like fools with each other. When I disagree with someone, most of the time I am still smiling when I challenge the person. When I make fun of someone, most of the time I imagine that they are smiling when they hear me and I want them to make fun back.

When I wine or complain, I am still smiling, but I am also rolling my eyes, and doing it in a funny voice, and maybe making a funny face and shaking my hips. CoasterBuzz is supposed to be fun. If you are not having fun hanging with us, there are other people hanging in other circles that you might find more in common with. I say that with a smile. I wish everyone happiness here.

Wine makes me smile, too.

Crap! Next time I will read what I wrote before I Submit reply.

I was pretty much just blabbing away anyways. :p

I'm not sure what all the hullabaloo is about. I could really give a rodent's fanny about this particular microtopic--it's a mildly interesting discussion, but I'm not emotionally attached to any position on the issue.

Frankly, I'm enjoying Coasterbuzz more than ever these days. The level of acrimony seems much reduced from days of yore. And the site's transformed me from a credit whore into a votemonger. Like targets on a Sally shoot 'em up, it adds something else fun to do during the ride...

What has happened to Coasterbuzz?

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I have always tended to have fun here, too. In addition to that fun, I used to get a kick out of the conversations. Even on topics that were seemingly over-discussed or stale, there were some folks here that I would get a kick out of debating the topic with.

It was almost more of a sport. It didn't matter which "side" I was on, I enjoyed dissecting the topic and trying to find new ways to persuade, challenge, negotiate, and yep, even entertain. And quite honestly, I got better at communicating and making my points because the quality of the dialogue was that good.

It's all good, though. To each his/her own. It's also fun to go straight for the humor...whether in the name of fun or merely because some folks really hate going over the same topics again and again. I get it. I just think the conversations tend to die at that point which is unfortunate.

Oh, and one more thing... if one more person "shows me the door" either generically or specifically, as a response to my challenging the cultural norms around here, I'm slamming it on their typing fingers.

Just sayin'. ;-)

I can't say I ever persuaded anyone to my way of thinking on well, anything....but I feel like my first 5-10 years here helped me become more persuasive in my arguments (arguments in the sense of making lucid points, not in the sense of stirring up trouble)...

...now if I could only figure out how to cut down on ellipses....

^Personally, I train with an ellipsical machine.

if one more person "shows me the door" either

I just want to point out that you took what I said to Ensign about leaving if you're unhappy and applied it to you. I never directed that to you.

Oh, I thought your post pointing out that I appear unhappy indicated that I should stop posting. Maybe I was wrong. But I wasn't just referring to comments made directly to me. I was also referring to general statements of the like. You cut that part out of the quote above. :-)

And I'm not trying to get into anything with that. It's just the easy response for someone to make when challenged is to say, "hey, if you're not happy (or not having fun...or whatever) then maybe you should go somewhere else."

My second post was a response to you, yes. When I made the first post to Ensign, due to a misunderstanding of his post, you came back. Yes, I went from there. Just as you had.

But when I posted that first response to him, I never said anything to you, nor was I referring to you. You got annoyed with it, fine. I stand by the sentiment regardless.

Clint, what are you talking about? My statement didn't have anything to do with your original post to Ensign.
