Actual Chatting with other members

I think that we could be able to have a private conversation with a member that is on coasterbuzz. I think that there should be a list on the right (or left, top, bottom...) that says who is on (not just how many people are surfing coasterbuzz), and then we would be able to "instant message" or "whisper" or "private chat" with them, so we wouldn't have to tell them everything in forums.

That would be one massive list.

We have other programs to do that (AIM, ICQ, etc.). Personally, I enjoy having coaster related content on CB being accessible to all the people on the site, with no conversations being hidden or removed from public view.

Yeah but don't you think that it should be one of the gimicks with the site? That would be so much cooler than instant messaging because then you wouldn't have to ask the person for their sn and we could have a funner time with all the stuff... (don't ask what I mean)

Amen... people get all pissed off at me because I don't answer their IM's. Maybe I don't want to talk to anyone I'm not familiar with?

A lot of forum software out there does have a private message feature, and I honestly thought about putting it in POP Forums v6.0 (which is running on GTTP), but in the end decided to put it out without it. Being a complete re-write I was getting impatient and just wanted it done.

The good thing about the forums is you can type when you have time....(obviously I have quite a bit, lol). But when we have server issues or actual programming problems, I can be VERY busy for hours....

Jeff, I know you're always working to upgrade, but even AS IS, POP forums runs like a scalded dog in comparison to other forums....honestly, that's probably what brought me here in the first place...

The new version has just blown me away, and it really shows that Microsoft was not screwing around when they built they the .Net Framework. The difference in speed between here and GTTP is noticeable, even when I'm sitting at the server viewing pages. I'm very anxious to get CoasterBuzz on the platform as well.

I'm not alone, huh? Sometimes I think if I get one more "When are you goign to add SFMM pics.." or "Do U no wat CP is bilding" IM I'll scream. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH For me, IM's are for family, spouse, and close friends! :)

Wanna hear something really weird? Back when I was an AOLer, my profile clearly stated my IM screen name and that I was a Christian.

So nearly every time I got online, I got an IM from some teen-ager who would start by saying, "You're a Christian, cool." But eventually, it would always lead to them asking me some personal question about sex. i.e., "Is it really a sin for me to have sex with my girlfriend now?" or "What about (...er.....onanism)? Is that wrong? I feel so guilty?"

Sheesh! Talk to your church counselor or something! Long story short, I do not make my IM name public anymore.... :|

we actually use IM's for work a LOT....easier than trying to conference-call....

Oh yeah - one other time I was talking smack to this guy in a chat room and he sends me an instant message with my address in it and says he's coming over to kill me. Yikes.

I looked up his address and it was in New York or something, so I wasn't too worried... but I did remove my address from the profile after that.

How could I have been so stupid??

I don't think that IM would be a good idea. How would it Improve Coasterbuzz anyway??? chatting off the subject???

It's not instant message... it's private messages, kind of like private topics between two members.
