actually... a square that big would be 4840 acres(23,425,600 square yards) ... 1 acre would be a rectangle 4840 yards by 1 yard (or any other dimensions/shape with an area of 4840 square yards)

You're not argueing with me. You're argueing with Webster's definition. Go present your case to them. According to them a sguare acre is 4,840 yards by 4,840 yards. 4,840 to the second power is not multiplying it by one. If you want to have a math battle then be aware that I did rank 9th for the Western Division Math & Logics Contest.
Noah's Ark is not the largest waterpark. yesterday i looked us acreage for the disneyworld parks and Blizzard Beach uses 66 acres. I'll provide a link in a second.
Don't worry, they were claiming they were the water park with most attractions. Don't worry about researching the web for all the info. I got all in front of me....Turning Page...Blizzard Beach is indeed 66 acres. Let me list water parks:
Raging Waters at Morey's Pier is 3 acres
Hurricane Harbor at Lake Compounce is 4 acres
Island Kingdom at SFNE is 6 acres
Mariner's Landing, NJ is 6.5 acres(Agent Johnson, how do they hold that a water park that big up on a pier?)
Steel Waters at Visionland is 7 acres
Whitewater Country(apart of the 68 acre Valleyfair) is 12 acres
Water Works at PC is 12 acres
Water Works Water Park at PKI is 15 acres
Six Flags Waterworld at SFAW is 15 acres
Raging Waters in San Jose, CA is 23 acres
Water World USA in Concord, CA is 25 acres
Wet n' Wild, NV is 22 acres
White Water Bay, OK is 25 acres
Adventure Island, FL is 25 acres
Water Country USA, VA is 30 acres
The Beach in Mason,OH is 35 acres
Six Flags Hurricane Harbor at SFoT is 40 acres
Raging Waters in San Dimas, CA is 50 acres
Typhoon Lagoon, FL is 56 acres
Oceans of Fun, MO is 60 acres
Wet n' Wild in Orlando, FL is 60 acres
Schlitterbahn Water Park, TX is 65 acres
Blizzard Beach, FL is 66 acres
Mantica Water Park in Mantica, CA is 80 acres
Splish Splash, NY is 100 acres
What about Indiana Beach's amusement park not including the campgrounds, cottages, etc. Does anyone know how many acres?
An ACRE is a measurement of AREA, therefore it implies length*width......based on my knowledge of real estate I'm going to say that AN acre is (app.) 208' X 208', which yields 43,264 sq. ft. Turning that into square YARDS yields (again, these are approximations) 4807 sq. yds. The reason these are not EXACT measurements is that most U.S. measurements are based on arcane principles...(the king's foot = 1 foot, etc.)...
Now, it is important that I say Square yards, NOT yards squared...I think THAT is where some folks are getting off on a tangent...

Don't argue with Wisconsin Dells. It's a tourist trap, so they have the right to lie about anything!
Indeed. To get off topic, Big Chief's Karts and Coasters claims that Zeus, one of their wood coasters, is the fastest wooden coaster in the Midwest. It's top speed, according to their Web site www.bigchiefcarts.com, is 60 mph. Fastest woodie in Wisconsin? Yes. Fastest woodie in the Midwest? Probably not. American Eagle goes 66 mph, and if you include Ohio in the Midwest, there's no way Zeus holds that record, since Son of Beast goes 78 mph.
Not that I don't like Big Chief's or the Dells, just pointing that out.

How do you measure the size of an amusement park?
The total acres owned?
The total acres used?
With or without parking lot?
With or without office and service areas?
The number of rides?
Or the number of smiles :)

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I think 183 is more like it, since I was always told that it is close to 200. Besides, can Magic Mountain be smaller than Knott's?!

SFMM has MUCH more space to use to add to that 183 acres they currently use. From what I hear, they own close to 800 acres of unused land.

Theme parks will NEVER be the same!

Im the #1 Canobie Lake Park Fan!!!These are my top 3 coasters:
1. S:RoS @ SFNE 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Cyclone
The theme park of Six Flags Magic Mountain currently uses 143 acres as of 2000, you have to add in expansions of 2001 and 2002, plus a 20 acres water park and parking lots, warehouses, zoned of areas. The numbers they got are straight from the source so you can't argue with them. You also are forgeting that Knott's has a much bigger water park, is not cramped like SFMM, is a full scale resort with hotel, spread out and on top of that has Camp Snoopy. The numbers for Cedar Fair and Paramount came straight from the chains' cabinets which is said in the book's acknowledements. Oh, sorry about confusion though. 183 acres is what I got from AAA's 2002 edition, so that is probably more accurate. Any other parks you guys want the size of?
Mike, Canobie Lake Park is only 28 acres right now. Canobie Lake is surrounded by a lake and tightly one the other three sides by a town. They don't own the lake either. On the other hand, Lake Compounce has no housing around it, the park does posses the lake and owns land on the hills of which it has built a Sky Ride over the mountain, Thunder Rapids, and the infamous Boulder Dash.
also, if you search knotts Berry farm acres with yahoo, you will find that about half of the pages list KBF as 166 acres, and i think this is in th AAA tour book (2002) too.
I side with vertigo in saying that Knotts is a very spread out complete resort, even with a 321 room hotel.
Does anyone know the Acrage of The Great Escape for what it currently is being used, and for what it owns?
Of all parks, that one was left out!! :(
Also... a list of waterparks was listed with their respective acrage... does anybody know the acrage of Roseland Waterpark in New York what it owns and is being used??
I do not want to repeat anything said previously but it will be easier if I do so. According to the reports, submitted to the government at the end of the 2001 fiscal year (and which are available to the public) these are the stats some companies list for their parks: (I believe SF and CP combine their amusement park and water park acreage in some numbers)
SFA-Own 515 acres with 131 acres currently used for park operations (42nd largest park in NA based on 2001 attendance)
SFAW/Splashtown-Own 100 acres for the theme park and about 60 for Splashtown (38th largest park)
SFDL-Own 988 acres. 144 for theme park, 242 campgrounds, 593 undeveloped and water area (41st largest)
SFEG-67 acres (44th largest)
SFFT (and waterpark)-206 acres (32nd largest)
SFGadv complex- Own 2,200 acres, use 240 for park ops, 45 for water park and 350 for safari park (14th largest)
SFGam-Own 440 acres, 92 used for park ops, 106 usable acres on other side of highway (23rd largest)
SFKK/waterpark-58 acres (49th largest)
SFMM/Hurricane Harbor-own 260 acres with 160 used for theme park and 12 for water park (18th largest)
SFMW-136 acres (30th largest)
SFNE/waterpark-230 acres, 90 for park ops, 12 for picnic grove, 128 undeveloped (34th largest...and didn't they buy more land recently?)
SFOG/whitewater atlanta-280 acres (28th largest park)
SFOT/HH-approx- Own directly 47 acres with 17 used for HH. (20th largest park, 7th waterpark)
SFStl-own 497 acres, 132 used for park ops. (35th largest)
SFWoA-690 acre property (includes 50 acre lake) theme park/water park 45 acres, marine wildlife park 113, 110 undeveloped acres
Enchanted Village/Wild Waves-65 acres
Frontier City-own 109 acres, 55 used for park ops
The Great Escape-368 acres, 143 used for park ops, 43 undeveloped suited for expansion
SFBelgium-120 acres
SFHolland-390 acres
SFMexico-107 acres
LaRonde-146 acres (48th largest in N.A.)
WBMWGermany-148 acres
WBMWMadrid-150 acres (with room for expansion)
Cedar Fair parks list their stats as follows in the same reports-CP-365 acres on peninsula and 80 on mainland
Knotts-160 acres (soak city 65)
Dorney-200, 170 developed
VF-125 developed, 75 additional
WoF-350 acres, 235 developed
MA-250, 100 developed
I'm not really sure what to look for to find paramount stats, sorry! Some of these numbers might be a little off since I can be absent minded in copying things sometimes, but it's the best I could do.

Splish Splash, NY is 100 acres
Splish Splash is another one of those cases where they certainly do *not* use all of the land that's available to them.
I'd be giving it my best guess, but I'd say they're using between 20 and 30 acres; outside of parking.
