-Leap the Dips for being the oldest surviving coaster
-Coney Island Cyclone for being the definition of a roller coaster for so many years
-Matterhorn: First tubular steel, start of a coaster revolution
-Knotts Corkscrew: First inverted steel
-Magnum: First coaster to start the hyper/giga craze
-Batman:The Ride SFGAm: First inverted coaster and the coaster I consider to have started the coaster building boom of the 90's
-X: A new and revolutionary concept totally different from anything ever seen, even a more radical departure than the inverted or flying coasters. Something I think we will see much more of in the future if not that design, others similar to it.

www.tripowered.com - I bet your curiosity is killing you....
I still think the only *recycling* that should happen to this coaster is after a complete meltdown....but there seems to be a groundswell of support for this idea of creating TWO "decent coasters" from one not-so-good one....
Only time will tell, but I'd be surprised if SW ends up heading East OR West, meaning South is the next "logical" option....or maybe just DOWN....;)
Gator: I'm glad you're a Mike Miller fan (good name for a playa), but the Orlando Magic??? They've stunk since we stole their best player! Go LAKERS!
(OK, this has nothing to do with ACE Coaster Landmarks...let's see, back on topic...Matterhorn, KBF/SW Corkscrew, Rebel Yell, Batman (SFGam) SOB, Stealth, S:UE, X)

Mike Miller - on the gravy train to coaster nirvana.
Mike's a Gator......Shaq, while CLEARLY the dominant force in basketball today, was an LSU Tiger (even got to see him destroy our beloved Gators). The Lakers ARE the team to beat, but hopefully someday the Kings will come up with a game-plan to short-circuit the dynasty....HUGE C-Webb fan here....(of course, stomping on Shaq's toe, while unsportsmanlike, is probably the ONLY real solution). We DID see a Magic game last year, got beat by the Pacers....*rolls eyes*.
ACE Coaster landmarks comment: Even though a ride has been "honored" as a ACE Coaster Classic or as an historical ride (like Revolution), I don't think that should disqualify the ride from receiving the "C'buzz Coaster of Distinction Award", or whatever we decide to name this dubious honor....
edit: Back to hoops, anyone see the stats for Kwwame Brown last night....wow, could we have used THAT guy...22/14....rebounding fool!

Magnum changed the coatser world. No matter what happens down the road, it would have been different if Magnum hadn't been built. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.
Is that really your definition for this status, though? Because, if that's the case, I can think of only five rides that qualify: Cyclone ('cause it's the Cyclone. I mean, come on!), The Matterhorn (where whould be be without steel?), the KI Racer (re-launched the whole coaster business), the original Corkscrew (don't tell me inversions didn't change the industry), and Magnum. You might notice that Leap-the-Dips and Revolution, two coasters that have already recieved the honor, do not make this list. They have hardly had a tremendous impact on the whole coaster industry.
And I just thought of another coaster I'd give the honor to (by what I percieve are the true standards, not Coaster Ken's): The Thunderbolt. I know, I can't really give any particular reason, besides the fact that it was considered the world's best ride for years, is an amazing classic, and is one of the most succesful re-profilings in coaster history...
If Magnum wouldn't have been built at Cedar Point, it would've been built somewhere. So while CP would be "different," the coaster world in general would not have been.

Yeah, All this talk about 20 year old coasters and one that is every bit as impressive to me gets no respect.
Screechin Eagle at Lesourdsville Lake
1927 John Miller. Yes it was once a coaster classic but now gets no respect even though the ride is still increadible.
Chuck, who just hopes the daym park is open next year

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!
Magnum changed the coaster world?
Maybe by being the tallest non looping coaster built at the time but the technology was there long before.
Magnum= Overgrown Mine Train.
Chuck, not trying to diss Magnums signifigance.

No, not S:UE. That title should go to Linear Gale in Japan.

C.N.: I would almost "grandfather" Screechin Eagle in to the "landmark" category simply becuause of its age alone. Like my earlier post stated... Any coaster that has been around 50+ years and is still running should certainly qualify for something.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

Loch Ness Monster: I'm amazed ACE hasn't plaqued this one yet, considering it was the site of the first group photo.
Are you serious or are you being facitious? (I don't mean "serious" about the site of the first group photo... I mean serious that you are surprised it hasn't been "placqued" yet because of that photo.)

Well, being from Memphis, I would agree that the Zippin Pippin also deserves this designation for a couple of reasons.. The first being that it is the oldest continuously operated coaster. Most people dont realize that the Pippin used to hold the oldest title until LTD was reopened. In comparison, the Pippin is MUCH more intense than LTD and has airtime-o-plenty! Since LTD is only operated a few weeks out of the year, the Pippin should be recognized for over 70 years of service in its current location.
Secondly, the Pippin was Elvis' favorite coaster. I know that doesn't mean alot to most people, but it's a marketing tool the park uses, especially around Elvis Week in August. Actually, Elvis used to rent out Libertyland overnight and his last activity before his death was riding the Pippin. He died a few days after his last overnight rental.
So, I charge ACE with making this designation and others that are deserving of this honor. :)

I hear a train a comin'
Comin' round the bend :P
TR2k3....GET READY!
I'm being entirely serious.
Charles: By that line of thinking, why plaque LtD? It wasn't the first LtD, nor an especially memorable variant of the design. It was an inevitable design, too.
Heck, Revolution wasn't the first clothoid looper! Just the first steel, w/ upstops.
I think Magnum was important because it gave us the hyper designation and category, and largely brought back the non-inverting steel coaster.
Personally I think
Racer at PKI Just because of what its credited for. (would be a ace coaster classic but PKI updated the trains)
Beast @ PKI that ride was in the top 10 for many years.
(same as above)
Screeching eagle @ lesourdsville. A seat divider should not of ever taken this ride out of the classics.
Raven and legand I have yet to ride but they do kick butt from what I have heard.
