Abandoned Park in Japan

A first generation Freefall seems to rot there as well.

All we're missing is Scooby and the gang and old man Wither's.

They are some pretty cool pics. *** Edited 4/27/2005 9:17:07 AM UTC by Red Garter Rob***

Japan is cool. These are great pictures. I love the style of the Japanese parks, although I've never been there.

What are some Japan coaster clubs?

The strange beauty of those pictures is amazing.

Its also eerie that they show an image that is so contrary to our (western) look at japanese perfection and all around tidyness.

The last thing you would expect in japenese cities are abandoned high-rises and shopping malls (well, maybe when there´s a Godzilla warning, but otherwise...)

I love them. It is errie. It's like a nuclear bomb hit and the city closed. Everything is like they just stopped one day, and left. Nothing at all seems to be stripped or unassembled. Very odd. You think they would have sold the trains and other parts.

I wonder if an earthquake hit that damaged the rides making them unsellable?

I have a feeling that the downturn in Japan's economy in the early 90's (from which they are still recovering) probably led to all of this decay.

Rob, you sure about that Schwarzkopf? Although the lift is Jet Star, the layout is definitely custom.

No, I guess I'm not sure........but it seems like it, eh?

Regarding the ecomony, it hasn't changed a bit since 98. Not one iota. ....and that's NOT good.

Maybe?

Eh, that one was relocated to Russia, so unless those photos are very old, that's probably not the one.

^No, this is definately not the one. It´s actually built by BHS and looks like "Jetline" at Grönalund. Completely different trains.

I first thought it was a park on Hashima Island, which is a completely abandoned town, but someone found out that the park was actually called "Takakonuma Greenland" in the north on Honchu Island.

I am quite sure that the coaster is a japanese copy! Compare the car-front to the original:

http://schwarzkopf.coaster.net/OKjetstar2GF.htm

There are some differences.

The art of japanese copy went this far, that some copied Huss rides could use the original spare parts!

Wow, you actually might be right. The bogey doesn't have that sloping beneled angle in the front (it's snub-nosed) and the headlights are different. What a trip!

That's what makes it so cool looking to me. It's not a closed down park, it's abandoned. The other photo essays, too, with the hotel and the electrical facility with all the meters and monitors still there. Creepy.

Again, blame it on the massive economic shift in 1992-98. It was psychotic. It went from 80 yen to the dollar in the early 90s to 145 yen in 1998. That's unheard of. Their money was worth literally half. For a westernized, thriving economy, it was like WWII all over again. The upheaval was so great, and is still pretty rough today, that suicides rose to epic proportions. That, and many workers would leave home daily, just to wander the local parks, too embarrassed to tell the family that their job doesn't exist anymore.

It's still a tough time in Japan, and yet, they opened the Universal Osaka a few years back. Then Suzuka sold Mad Cobra to Taiwan. Weird. I was at Suzuka opening day for Mad Cobra, and there was a 2 train wait all day. 7 years later, the company that sold the ride photos (a pal of mine) is out of business all over Asia, not just Japan.

Sad. :(

Hey all
Been monitering this topic for a bit while tryna find that park. Well the park from the first post is called Takakonuma Greenland. there are a few artistic sort of pictures of the park in its current condition here http://www.artsyken.com/galleries/greenland/
As nasai said (According to the RCDB) the park opened first in 1973 it closed later on and opened in 1986 again before closeing in 1999
The sad fate of several Japanese parks recently :(

The one kpjb posted was easy. The park is Yokohama Dreamland which shut in 2002 :( (RCDB link: http://www.rcdb.com/pd472.htm )

I hate seeing a shutle loop wasting :( *** Edited 5/2/2005 10:18:17 PM UTC by roomraider***
