2007 Six Flags Magic Mountain

S:TE was listed for $150K...can't find the reference now, and it isn't *currently* listed on my used-rides site...LOL!
Superman The Escape was never put up for sale by the park. A small U.S.-based independant ride broker mistook Freefall's listing for Superman The Escape.

Sue Carpenter, Magic Mountain's spokeswoman, had the PR team immediately contact all media outlets that were reporting Superman for sale to have the stories retracted due to false information.

So neither Superman The Escape nor Dive Devil (referring to Kennywooddude's post) were listed for sale.

An update from this weekend (Saturday 3/10)

* Ninja reopened today at 11 am after having been closed for a few weeks while it was being repainted and it is looking real spiffy. The entire ride (even the transfer section) was repainted as well as all handrails, gaurdrails and even the operator booth. The coasters' lift-hill lights have also been replaced.

* Thrill Shot was testing last weekend and officially reopened today.

* The Riddler's Revenge station has been repainted and all signage lighting has been replaced.

* Batman's queue speakers have been fixed up and replaced -- queue music blasting a Batman soundtrack is back! Queue fan in the "sewage tunnel" part of the queue has been fixed.

* All wood and other debris leftover from the Psyclone demolition has been completely cleared and cleaned out. Two of Psyclone's trains now reside on the transfer/maintenance shed at Colossus covered with tarps -- the third sits in a storage container adjacent to Colossus, also covered.

* Synching up with Psyclone's removal, the park used this opportunity to have all of Deja Vu's lift-cables replaced and have the ride go under routine maintenance. It will reopen on March 24.

* Superman The Escape is the next attraction on the list to receive a new paintjob --- "Superman" colors instead of its original white/gray motif.

* One of Tatsu's three trains have been sent back to B&M for repairs.

* The entire parking lot has been completely resurfaced and restriped. Looks very nice.

* New employee uniform backs remind guests not to smoke and litter.

* Log Jammer is undergoing an extensive overhaul. Most major components are being replaced.

* Tidal Wave and Tweety's Escape are undergoing maintenance.

* Sierra Twist's queue entry sign has been repainted.

Wow, sounds like a great start on Shapiro's promise to clean up the place. Let's see if it continues during the busier time of the park's season.

Nice to see the park being spruced up but the true test will come in the middle of summer when peak crowds and peak temperatures collide and employees start to feel burned out. All the fresh paint ain't gonna mean a damn if rides are down or operating at half capacity due to lack of staff or funds for maintenance, or if ride-ops are slow and apathetic.

This is a great begining. I may have to revisit sooner than I originaly planned.

Here is what the new shirts look like.

Employee shirts.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Those shirts look like a joke. Poor employees. That's ridiculous, Shapiro.

I like the shirts, I would rock that proudly in a I'm-so-cool-I'm-not-too-cool-to-wear-this kinda way.
Sounds like they are off to a good start at cleaning up the Mountain. That park needs some serious maintenance work!

Wow--Superman actually getting a Superman paintjob--how cool is that?! Though I actually do like the white paintjob. It's different, and it goes with the whole Fortress of Solitude theming.

I hope they give the hydroflume the maintenance it sorely needs. Log Jammer was in better shape than that poor ride.

Now if they could only:

--keep consistent 2-train ops on the coasters
--remove their employees' apathetic attitude
--remove the parking lot beneath Scream and install sod and landscaping
--reopen the monorail, sierra falls, that "other" trasport ride, and the many unused buildings that they used to use
--run all the rides!

Orient Express and Yosemite Sam Sierra Falls are operating. The only attraction NOT operational at the park is Metro (monorail) and Flashback (being removed). There are a select few right now that are currently closed for routine "off-season" maintenance:

* Log Jammer, Deja Vu, Tweety's Escape, Tidal Wave.

So a little review of what most people here assume are always closed that are actually operational right now:

* Thrill Shot - OPEN

* Sky Tower - OPEN

* Freefall - OPEN

* Yosemite Sam Sierra Falls - OPEN

* Orient Express - OPEN

I thought they were already going to do that. Or was that another magic mountain daydream sequence I had....krax??

Fate is the path of least resistance.

Can someone shed some light on Metro becoming operational again? Is there any work being done, any credible rumors about it either way?

Have to admit, the stations sitting there dormant and dilapidated always seemed to give the place the look and feel of a deserted inner-city....maybe that's just me? ;)

^^^ Good to hear, Krax. When I was there last summer, the only one of those 5 rides that was open was the sky tower.

Another sign that Shapiro just might be on the right track, though I don't always agree with some of the "cars" on his "train". :)

It was brought up as a park improvement in a discussion at an employee meeting a few months ago, but there are no signs it being carried out nor was it officially confirmed. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

Here's the deal with Metro -- Shapiro stated in the January 12 conference with investors that a new "train ride" with three stops in the park will open this year at Magic Mountain. A lot of people made safe assumptions that this new train ride is nothing more than a restored and updated Metro (considering Metro also has three stops in the park).

However, there are no signs of any work being done to the monorail attraction, nor any sign of work for an entirely new "train" attraction. Shapiro also said a new restaurant would open at Magic Mountain this year, yet we've to see any sign of that happening.

He's a lot of talk, that guy.

Imo, I think SFMM is in the situation where there was so much to be done, that some things will get pushed until next year.

While seeing Scream landscaped would be nice, one of their original parking lot coasters - Collosuss, hasn't really ever received a lot of complaints due to it's lack of landscaping after the station. That probably sends the message to the park about what the guests value, for better or worse.

Goliath sails over dirt for the most part as well. Although I do think they should complete the "show" around those rides as well as possible, but I suppose that depends on the needs of the mechanics needing access. Maybe a nice blanket of astroturf or decorative pavers. As well as Tatsu turned out, they still need to finish the hill.

But next to getting all the rides functional and staffing requirements met, I don't think they have the time to take on too many more ambitious improvements before the park opens full time. Personally, I would think they could hire some temp help to finish off the landscaping in many sections.

But it is a great start though this year.

How about poor Revolution!

Wish they would honor that ride as it deserves. When run how it was intended, when it opened, its an incredible ride...

Speaking of shoulder bars... wouldn't it be cool if Arrow or S&S or whatever it is now - went thru and replaced all the harnesses with lap bars like Premier did? There would be lots of great steelies out there. And we'd probably still have Shockwave at Great America (and Drachen Fire to boot!).

Screamscape says Johnny Rockets probably near Collosus and Scream. He is a lot of talk though.

I heard that they are opening a "Jhonny rockets" at the carousel grill near scream/ collossus. *** Edited 3/13/2007 4:43:17 PM UTC by crazy horse***

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

consistent 2-train ops? check! (at least all day 3/11)
employees not apathetic? check! (at least all day 3/11)
run all the rides? check! (at least on 3/11.. the only exception were just a couple that were down for scheduled maintenance like Log Jammer and Vu...)

I posted this in another thread, but I was actually fairly impressed with the improvements in the mountain so far compared to my visits in previous years!

Edit: typo.. still got a little jetlag from the trip to Cali, I guess. :) *** Edited 3/14/2007 8:03:18 PM UTC by dannerman***
