Most land in the union...  :-)

1.  I have no idea what you mean by this remark.

2.  I'm not trying to dis Mississippi or anything, but it is one of the, if not the poorest state in the Union, and i don't really see how having lots of Casinoes was in on that.  I would suggest you look through some of the recent census results for yourself. Building a park with 8 rollercoasters there just seems like an odd business desicion to me.  Is the nearest metro area just Memphis?

A park south of Memphis just sounds bizarre.   Memphis' population alone would not provide sufficient attendance figures.  Even as a destination park, the location still seems very odd.

I lived in Memphis for almost a year and have travelled there on business on a few occasions.  Their airport is EXPENSIVE to fly in and out of, at least from Texas, that is.

Still, I wish the project the best and will certainly make effort to visit it, even with its seemingly strange location.

Maybe they are tring to make it a destination park?

Other than Montana and Wyoming, which have no big metropolitan areas in their vacinity, in the U.S. can you buy 5000 acres of land? Not many places...this park would also be a year-round park, so why not? Obviously, by the magnitude of this park, it will not be a one-day trip. More of a trip to Disney World...like a weeks stay.

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

Lets look at the facts to do in the area.  You can take a trip to the casinos, watch an NBA game, watch one of the best AAA baseball teams in the country in the finest minor league stadium in the country, visit Graceland, the National Civil Rights Museum, the Memphis Zoo (very under-rated), and then add a huge Disney-like resort theme park to the mix, and you got your self a destination area, kind of like Orlando.  Not to mention Memphis is the BBQ capital of the world!

What NBA team is in the area of Memphis?  Also Memphis doesn't have the finest minor league stadium in the country that title is held by the Quad City Riverbandits in Davenport, Iowa trust me its been in Sports Illustrated and Time magazine.

Hey, Brett, you forgot to mention the terrain woodie and that the B&M's would be launched and themed to a dogfight complete with dives through canyons and ravines.  And that's only four of the eight coasters the park will open with

Thanks for the correction, Erik.  Those are only 4 of the park's 8 signature coasters.  You'll all be amazed on opening day.
Brett and themeparkne, do ya'll have any idea as to what the other coasters will be like?  Could you post any links also?  I would appreciate it.

Well, we both know the head designer of the park.  There are no links that we know of.  We got all of our info through communication with him, and nothing more.  This is confidential information, but I figured we'd throw this out there anyway.  Also, I am not aware of what the other coasters will be like, but the ones we mentioned will most likely be the headliners of the park.  In addition, here are some details on the park itself:

-The park will be the largest worldwide and will break numerous world records.

-It will feature the most rides worldwide.
-Eight coasters will grace the park at opening.
-800 million dollars has been raised so far to turn this into reality.  A large group of private investors are those who are developing this park.
That is all I can divulge as of now.  I hope you understand and appreciate what I have given so far.

Will this thing kill Libertyland, or bring more people to visit it as well?

Brett Stevens: You also forgot the terrain woodie would have interlocking loops. Also the Giovanola Inverted with a Desert theme. This is the 5th one out of 8.

I hate to say it, but the park will probably kill Libertyland.  Even thought the park is not all that great, it's sad when any park has to close.  If the park does not close, it will just generate no revenue and eventually lead to the end of the park anyway.  BTW, thanks Brett!

Does anyone know how long plans have been underway for this project?

I'd think waaaay before that! IOA took over 8 years from concept to finish. That's only 100 acres, and this think is overall 50 times as big! If it only started in 2000, then I think that it wouldn't open up for quite a few years...

I take that back, I remember the park developers stating that they had tried to get the park in an Arkansas location and another location I am not sure of but those locations could never get approved, and this one has.  So I would say probably around 5 years ago.  That is just my estimate though.  Since I live in Memphis, when the park starts construction, I will try to go on down to Desoto every weekend or so and take some construction pics of the park and probably get a website for the park and its pics.  I am hoping for great things for this park.  I can't wait for Spring 2004!
