100 coasters

Well, I'm now 17, from MN, and I've been on 51 coasters. I've been an enthusiast since '96 (thanks to Wild Thing @VF), but I don't really get to visit parks as often as most buzzers. I don't drive, but on EVERY family vacation, since '98 we've stopped at an amusement park on the way for me. My family isn't really into coasters at all, but my dad rides with me.

I visit Valleyfair! and Kennywood (and Knott's Camp Snoopy at the MOA if you want to count that) every year, and I've also been to CP (twice), SFWOA, SFGAm, vegas coasters, & SFMM...

Adam Mcneil,

Yes, I understand. I am in that situation too. Except mine has been more money related as to why I haven't been able to get to parks. I just don't have enough because I have to save some for college every year. I drive just fine!

I know what it is like not to hit a lot of theme parks in one year. One of these years it looks like it will happen. Next year looks decent for me as I will probably hit Cal (SFMM and hopefully KBF) when visiting a fraternity brother. Also, my family will probably take one more big trip to a couple of parks.

This year will only be about four parks though.

Email me and we can talk coasters: smles@ilstu.edu

Well, I was lucky enough to have coaster lovers for parents so every family vacation from 1984-1990 involved an amusement park of some sort. I didnt ride all the coaster then, but I had a pretty good start. I think I was somewhere around 70 in 2000 when I first bothered to attempt to count them. Now I'm about @ 180 or so. I dont anticipate breaking 200 anytime soon though. Likely not till 2004 when hopefully all the current Cali coasters are running well.

I'm pretty much done for new parks this year (SFAW, SFoT, SFFT, SWT, Dorney) and 2003 doesnt look to bring any new parks either (perhaps SFNE and LC). I *suppose* I could load up on a bunch of little parks, but I'm not that interested and besides, such a geeky count doesnt mean much to me and even less to the people I feel worthy to try and impress. Hell, I could just spend a whole summer at HersheyPark and say screw the count!

I didn't hit 100 coasters until 1999, about three years after I started doing road trips. Just this past week a friend and I decided to hit up the East Coast parks and rode well over 50 coasters in like six days. We went to eight different parks and I got to add all of two new coasters (Ricochet PKD and Batman Dark Knight -- B&M #36, woohoo!).

My count now stands at 364. I am leaving for the European Coaster Odyssey tomorrow afternoon and should break the 400 mark during the England portion of the trip, ending with about 440 coasters total. Wonder what #500 will be. :)

Yes, I will be writing a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE TR when I get back. This time I'm actually going to write down little thoughts on a notepad about the rides so I don't forget (yeah, I know, I'm a nerd). It should be very detailed again. :)

Badnitrus

Sounds like a fun trip! Your friend sounds like a great planner of road trips. What was your favorite hyper on the trip, Apollo? That is such an amazing ride!

You probably won't get to live to see coaster #153 if you keep mocking me! :-P

Legendary....Apollo? Are you kidding me? S:RoS (even the small one at SFA) beats AC, or even Nitro, by a margin worthy of Secretariat....IMO. Don't get me wrong, the Beemer hypers are cool and all, but until they get a train design that makes me FEEL the speed the way those I-trains do, it's just not a fair competition....

-----------------
Welcome to the Cedar Point skyride....we'll take you up 50, drop you down 30, all at an amazing speed of 6 miles per hour....we won't see you back unless you make the return trip!

rollergator... Legendary was most definitely kidding, Apollo was the worst-running ride on our trip for some reason! Nitro and both SROS's beat Apollo any day in my book!

legendary schmegendary... watch it! 2.5% anyone??

I'm curious to know how you "youngsters" (teens) get to ride so many new coasters each year-are your parents crazy? Before I could drive, I got to go to CP once a year and KI once a year-that was it.

Well I'm 15 and I've been on 85 now, over 150 by the end of the summer. My parents are a little crazy, but I live in central PA, we got Six Flags season passes and Paramount passes. If you get 4 passes, (family) they are only 10 or 20 bucks more than admission. You do the math. Now, how many SF and Paramount Parks are within a day from PA? Well there's your answer.

-----------------
Yes I'm 15, no I'm not childish, I'm not being sarcastic, well maybe I do have somewhat of an ego...

Hehe yeah Bill, I was kidding about Apollo. Before this year, I thought it was top notch, maybe #6 or so on my top 10. But for some reason, out of the three rides we took this trip, none of them left me with a "HOLY CRAP THAT RULED" reaction I got previously. I could chalk it up to not riding it late in the day (We were all about Alpengeist which was HAULING...what a difference no trim at the top of the lift makes) because night rides on Apollo were extremely good, IMO. But I mean I'd still take it over any Morgan (save for PR) or Magnum. Maybe it was just the fact that we rode NITRO and SRoS (which was rattling worse than one of those snakes...ya know, rattlesnakes? Bah) the day before but it left something to be desired.

Hey, if anything, it ran circles around Batman Dark Knight! I noticed something too on this trip...when it's like 100º outside, coasters run *so much better*. Not to mention every park we went to was d. e. d. dead. The only park with lines was SFNE and that's because they decided one train operation on every coaster ('cept BTDK) was sufficient enough. Nuts to them! SFGAd on Saturday had WALK ON/STAY ON conditions on everything except Chiller...we had 6 Nitro, 3 'Dusa, 2 Chiller, and some other random assorted flats in under 2hrs on a 4th of July SATURDAY at SFGAd! Is the industry failing or what's the deal here?

Anyway, I've strayed too far from the original topic. Yeah, I wonder who the youngest person here to ever hit 100 coasters is. Anyone?

BTW, Keith...2.5% of what, $0? BAM!

Badnitrus....that bites! I didn't really appreciate AC the way most people seem to, but I figured it was just me. It was a good smooth ride, fast and all, but lacking a bit (maybe more) in intensity...I guess in spending all their time taking DF apart, BGW forgot to maintain the coaster that is STILL running. Sorry AC was poor, for me it was just....uninspiring.

S:RoS, however, is the closest I've come to coaster perfection in steel....the incredible, FORCEFUL air, the powerful helices....awesome.....and Nitro even beats S:UF for me, just a really solid ride, great helix, the best Beemer by a mile....(I apparently went to SFGAm on a "bad hair day" for Bull).

BTW, A couple times recently someone said to me "hey, that's the guy from Badnitrus"...once was definitely at SRM (wedding day) and I think once was at the Con on the Big G....were you there....I'll have to introduce myself next time.... bill

edit: guessing it's gonna have to be Cbaby or Da Midget to reach 100 first....talk about being "raised to ride"...

i hit 100 on 4/3/02 (X:)) and now have 111 having with just visiting SFoG yesterday (111 was BTR which was also 91 on BTR @ SFMM)

I soubt i won't get over 200 for at least 4 years, since id have to go to really remote areas that are away from big cities. However by next year i should be at least at 125 by viviting either SFGam or SFNJ and various new coasters added in ohio.

I just hit 100 (Medusa - SFMW) on 7/5...and that's about where my coaster count will stall at for the near future as My wife and I are expecting our first baby this fall and I have to cut back on my trips to only local parks (aka SFGAm)

That being said... I am still planning on making a day trip out of IB one day this summer... ;)

Posting, "Me too" like some brain dead AOLer. I ought to to the world a favor, and cap you like old yeller...

Dang most of you teens are lucky. Im 13 and I only have 15 coasters in my track record. I guess over the years I will get more and more as I travel places. Im going to California a couple of times in a few years and I go to Ohio once or twice a year so eventually I'll get more coasters.

I am just a tad over 200, but it took me over 20 years to get here. I don't know if 50 a year is possible for more than a few years. After that, you are going to be spending a lot of time abroad!:)

Hahaha thanks SFgadvMAN! I enjoy writing the long trip reports (even though I STILL HAVEN'T FINISHED THAT TR FROM SFWOA!!! SORRY JULIE!)

I know you weren't mocking me, that comment was directed toward "the guy from Badnitrus." He thought he was funny by copying my entire post...jerk!

Maybe since you have nothing to do you can write a TR, Keith? I would but I'll be in another continent...sucker.

EDIT: Rob, it was cool seeing ya in line for Volcano, too bad it had to be an Intamin and break down. Did you guys leave right away? We never saw ya after that. It's been too long since we've wreaked havoc at SFGAd, man! We gotta during CC7!

Anyway, Steel Dragon 2000 was my 100th coaster. Good one to have, huh?

My parents both have been going to CP every year since they where around 10. (not enthusiasts then) So needless to say I also grew up at Cedar Point going around atleast twice a year. It wasen't till a few year back when I really begain geting into coasters, so the first year we hit SFO (now SWOA) and CP then the following year we to our first True coaster trip to PA! This years trip down south is coming real soon! (July 22) My parents and Sister now days I would say they are quazi enthusiasts, I'm the true enthusisasts, my sis is becoming more of one as we hit more parks!
