$0 for the site

I am shocked about how the majority of this site wouldn't pay anything for this service. I voted for $20.

well a small task to click an X on the screen is so much better than paying money for a site that is already free for us, which I really appreciate. If Jeff put up a poll saying how much would you pay to keep Coasterbuzz up and running if a desperate situation arose then I would pay but for ads, better to click an X.

I'd pay if there were a method other than credit cards. It can be difficult to obtain one at 16. If it came to the point where we had to pay, and Jeff could come up with another method I'd be glad to contribute. Although unfortunately in the world we live in today, I don't know how comfortable Jeff would be opening up hundreds of lettters from people he doesn't know.....

It's one thing to pay $20 or $30 a year for a Web site when you're a teen-ager and all the money you make, you can spend on video games or food or whatever.  Yes, I remember those times, I was a teen just 7 years ago.

But when you have mortgage, car payments, student loans, credit card bills, etc., it's hard to justify $20 for a site I can definitely live without, especially since the ads aren't intrusive.

Don't get me wrong, I love this site and visit every day, and Jeff does a great job running it.  It's just not an essential part of my life.  I'm pretty sure Jeff would feel the same way if he was in our shoes.

I was a teen about 7 years ago, too. Amazing the things at the time that my parents covered, and how little I thought that was at the time! Being young, living at home equals few bills, even if you pay for your car insurance, it's cheap to be young, but even now I can't get a credit card! My wife has some, I just especially will not use one through a computer. Like said before, ads aren't that bad. There are some pops and javas that slow my computer down, way down sometimes, it's not something I can complain about. Although I should note I read in the papers about the "porn virus" kind of pops being on the legal road off the 'net:). I knew, just like the TV and radio, that third parties and beyond were flipping the bill for me to be online, so I agreed to it, before I ever came online.
Another way I look at it is that I am the consumer, I am the person who looks at what is on the internet, after that, it's all over, I turn my computer off. The other guys, the webmasters and stuff, they know exactly what they are doing, and made decisions to be online and public with their sites before they ever started. They've done thier homework, they know what they're getting into or there wouldn't be many sites. So it's a good concept, pay if that's your thing, but free access will be available. :(, I just lost a site I visit today. Although I would have supported them if I coul've, I'm very poor now, I've been laid off twice since this summer's end, and I enjoy the content of what is available on the internet, should I have to wait 'till I've got money to enjoy it? No, that's no way to be, sometimes what has to be done has to be done. I, although I appreciate Coasterbuzz, cannot spare any money to it, it could mean the difference in me riding or not!
p_c_r, you were born just 8 days after me.  And I was born in Wilmington, Ohio, and you live in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Hmmm.....
One thing to consider, coaster crazy, is that it's hard as can be to make $ off the web, the only people that really turn a profit are the porn sites...with everything available free on the web, it's hard to get people to pay for something.  The buzz is THE BEST coaster site on the web, but getting people to pay for it, that's a whole other deal...

Remember that the question asks how much you would pay for an add free site.  Personally, I'm not that annoyed by the adds.  I consider them a reasonable price to pay for a free site.  The question would have been different if it had been, "How much would you pay to keep this site alive?"
I would definitely pay....this is my work stress reliever!!

I think you got the idea. It's mine too!

Jim Fischer says it best. I chose $0 on the poll. I visit CB at least 5 days a week, easily more than any other site. I probably would NOT choose to pay for a monthly subscription, especially since that would severely diminish the number of people who post. That is the heart and soul of coasterbuzz. I dont mind the banner ads, but I hate the pop-ups. Still, I can live with them if it is necessary to keep CB moving in it current direction. I would, however, be willing to DONATE money or INVEST in CB if it were imperative to keep the site alive. Paying for ad-free CB isnt on my agenda. Keeping CB alive IS.

The poll said that the "alleged" fee was per year, not per month.  I have car payments, a mortgage, etc., etc., also... but at the end of the year, I think I'll still have $20 left.

$10 is a couple of happy meals, not even two movie tickets, one third of a magazine subscription, a round on two mini golf courses or a few packs of smokes (if you're inclined to do that sort of thing). How many of those last all year?

But I come to coasterbuzz, and use the internet because its free. I refuse to pay for it and you would lose my business if I had to pay for it.

This is one AWESOME site but its just not worth paying for whwn theres other sites that will give you all the same info but only lack the fun of the membership and posts.
To all you who oppose this: put yourself in Jeff's shoes. If you were losing money every year, you would have a very different opinion. Jeff would not even bring this up if it was not a concern; it's not like he's sitting at home asking himself how he can make money, he just wants to break even. As for me, I voted for $20. Well worth it if you ask me...I am a teenager by the way, and I still think it's fair. Everyone can contribute if it's in the best interest of CoasterBuzz.

You guys are missing a very important distinction here. Jeff asked if I would pay money for an ad free site OR live with the ads. To be honest, I really don't mind advertisements and I believe for that sole purpose it would be foolish to pay. Now, if Jeff had posed the question as would you pay or have me shut down the site, it might sway my decision. Get my drift?

STChick is right.  Jeff wouldn't be making any money off this and it costs tons o' money to run a site like this.  That's probably the reason I jumped on buying Coasterbuzz - the tshirt.  In order to keep this great site going, we need some support from members.  The next time I see Jeff, I want to shake his hand, buy him some Skyline cheese coneys, and give him some monetary support.  Hey, somebody has to pay for his wonderful grass.   ;)

You have to realize that this isn't just about the weekly poll question, at least for me. I realize that it asks about an add free CoasterBuzz, but it says so much more. Read the newsletters, know what's going on.

Second, when the time comes, help out if you can. We want to keep
CoasterBuzz free, but we may come up with extra incentives for those who
support this kind of endeavor. If we find a way to do this, consider
that a couple of bucks goes a long way to providing a lot more content
on a daily basis than any $30 magazine subscription ever will.

We have a great thing here, please don't take it for granted. Realize what is going on. The time has not yet come for this, but still be aware of ways you can help. I love you guys:)

Well, since Jeff is making exactly nothing from your "business", I think he'd rather have 100 paying members than 1000 freeloaders.

BUT ONCE AGAIN, the question was not "pay or go away," it was pay for it to be ad free.  You can see a movie on HBO for a few bucks more, or wait till it's on broadcast tv and see it chopped up with ads.  Same concept.

Personally, I get enjoyment out of the site, and it's worth $10, $20, whatever, for a YEAR'S worth of it.  There is nothing you can get in life that will please you for that long a span for that small a price.

(Oh, and MambaTim, I wasn't picking on you per se, just the general attitude of many members that you seemed to sum up in that one post.  Sorry.)
