Oh, that was definitely not me. I gave it a five.
My ratings skew toward the high end anyway.

It was me. I rode the POV on YouTube and was disappointed.

I rode a recreation in Parkitect and the transitions were terrible.

Surprised/ not surprised about VC. Is it the first non hyper/ giga #1 on Coasterbuzz?

Nope, The Voyage was #1 for a bit.

Too short, bad capacity, too many trims (which I think are all inaccurate for Velocicoaster, if I understand correctly).

So, if I have a coaster in my Track Record and it isn't ranked (marked with the red x),

Does the calculation give it a 0 out of 5 or is it considered unranked?

It is unranked.

I'm interested in where The Beast ranks after it reopens this season.

I’m curious what the overlap is between. people who have ridden RMCs and Velocicoaster. Velocicoaster is good (though my one ride was marred by a very rough train) but my friends agreed that it doesn’t hold a candle to Iron Gwazi or Steel Vengeance.

I have yet to hear about or experience any sort of "rough train" issues on Velocicoaster.

It's absolutely fantastic. But I can easily think of many others I would rank above it.

^^
PhantomTails, I've been on five of the RMC conversions, and VelociCoaster was my immediate favorite ride when I stepped off it the first time.

This likely isn't surprising for someone who had previously had Maverick as his favorite coaster, though.

I’m a few days behind, but I see Velocicoaster’s reign was short-lived. It’ll be interesting to see if it jumps back up with more ridership.

I think it’s cool to be in the era of design in which we lie right now. RMC, Vekoma, Intamin, and GCII have really been pushing intensity more and more, and I think we’re seeing a golden age of design unfold. Consider that of the top four coasters in the CBuzz poll, the oldest is Fury 325 at a meager seven years. For about a decade (more for the first two I’m about to mention), it felt like Millennium Force, Superman - The Ride, El Toro, and Voyage just traded places, and now there’s a new contender every few years.

I’m going through a pretty big lull in my park/coaster travels right now, but when my kids are a bit older and potentially into coasters as well, it’s going to be an exciting time of new discoveries.

Or if it jumps up with more Steel Vengeance "closed for typical Ohio weather" days.

This is where I'm finally at now. With my daughter starting to really enjoy them this year, I don't have to stand in line by myself anymore!!!

I am on the backside of the kids. Oldest is out in the real world and the youngest is only home for 1 more year before he heads to college a long way from home, and frankly he is too busy to do parks with me anymore. Good thing I don’t mind hitting parks by myself, like my Carowinds / Dolly trip in a couple of weeks.

Last time we had two coasters debut in the same week?

Iron Gwazi comes on strong with a #3 placement, and Maxx Force shows up at #83. TBH I wasn't even tracking Maxx Force - for a park as popular as SFGAm is I guess my brain assumed it was already on the list somewhere, or, maybe it just wasn't tracking well enough to crack the top 100 (and there are indeed many many terrific coasters now that are getting bumped out of the ratings).

What I find interesting is the psychology behind the numbers. Doing a little math;

Iron Gwazi @ 3rd place
39 riders x 4.87179 score = 190 total points
39 riders x 5.0 prefect score = 195 possible points
That means 5 riders gave IG a score of 4.0 instead of 5.0
5 "dissenters" / 39 riders = 12.8% ratio

Steel Vengeance @ 1st place
285 riders x 4.92281 score = 1403 total points
285 riders x 5.0 prefect score = 1425 possible points
That means 22 riders gave SV a score of 4.0 instead of 5.0
22 "dissenters" / 1425 riders = 7.7% ratio

I'd be willing to bet that Iron Gwazi's score increases as more people ride it.

What I am curious about is why someone would rank either ride below a 5. Too intense? Don't like inversions? Or is it a personal bias on the part of the 5 or 22 "dissenters" that they purposefully knock down the "competition" in an attempt to see their favorite ride as #1?

I have questions.....

Later,
EV

That's why I lean into those minimums among the most experienced riders, but even then, I'm not sure I would call 39 riders statistically significant, but relatively speaking, not that many visitors here rate the rides.

We had a recent thread where a (small) group of folks have some quibbles with the RMC monsters. Manic pacing, intensity, and restraints came up.

I don't have hard data to support this but it does seem like coasters that recently debut tend to shift a little in the ratings before they settle, probably as they get more eyeballs on them and people remember to rate them.
