Six Flags America is closing its Apocalypse stand-up roller coaster. It will close forever on Saturday, Sept. 8. The park has not indicated what its replacement will be.

I rode it one time as Iron Wolf and that was plenty. It was kinda headbangy, but super boring. Sad that the very first B&M is on the chopping block, though.

I rode it one time last season, and that was enough. Been back several times and skip it like I skip the vekoma hang and bang.

Scrapheap or floorless?

Nothing to see here. Move along.

I eventually wanted to ride it since it showed up at SFA a few years ago, but not enough to visit SFA again. It's been 15 years, and is one of the parks closest to where I live.

I didn't find the ride all that bad except for one spot I believe just before the helix. It slammed the entire train over when entering the curve, other than that spot the ride wasn't bad or painful, just not very good either.

...so what you’re saying is that it fits right in at SFA.

Guess that makes September the 8th the Apocalypse Apocalypse.

Glad I got to ride it this summer, but not surprised it's leaving. Maybe they'll replace it with an even bigger Larson Loop than the Bourbon Street Fireball.

Queue the people who assume that it will be converted to a floorless.

Where exactly will this "queue" be located? ;)

It's a shame that B&M stand-ups did not age well! This is a piece of history, as it was the first coaster by B&M. It would be nice to see a car saved and go to NRCM. I loved it when it first opened as Iron Wolf. But by the time it closed at SFGA, it was just horrible! Converting it won't help much. It didn't with Mantis.

Really? I thought Rogarou was a good ride. Way better than Mantis ever was.

I agree. It’s an outstanding floorless.

The name got way worse, though.

I wouldn't say way better than Mantis...only slightly. I only rode a couple of times and still beat my head around.

Steel coasters won't age very in general. Wooden coasters can be re-tracked pretty easily (literally removed portions of the ride and replacing them over the off-season) but re-tracking steel coasters is very difficult. Steel coasters will just have finite lives, and that's something that parks concede when they build the ride. Unless something is a true rare classic that's still popular, you're probably better off putting the money into removing aging steel coasters and building new ones. That way you not only have a ridable, more reliable ride, but you also have a cutting edge fresh coaster to market to guests.

The B&M coasters from the early 90's are obviously in their mid-20's now, and will be approaching 30 soon. I think that they're just hitting the age that tough decisions have to be made.

I thought Rougarou was mediocre and rode it only to get the credit.
