Conneaut Lake Park emerges from bankruptcy

Managers of the amusement park have reorganized its finances and reached agreements to pay more than $3 million in debts. They're selling surplus property to help finance the repayments. Most recently, a lot fronting Conneaut Lake sold for $255,000 in January. The lion's share of the proceeds went to local taxing authorities, toward the park's $1.3 million property tax debt.

Seriously, how many times can this park rise from the dead. I can't keep following, it's exhausting.

Someone please stick a fork in this park and develop the land into condos or something else once and for all...

It's really not all that exhausting.

It's been on the uptic the last few years, this isn't surprising, nor exhausting.

Sure one can ride a Vettle coaster and a Traver bug. Sure it's afforadable for even the tightest budgets. Sure an entire family can enjoy a day on the deepest natural lake in the state. Sure there's a creepy hotel and fun for all. Sure there's nostalgia, history, and generations of memories...

I would love for someone to come along and help this place get it's turds together. Otherwise, CLP is nothing more than a seedy dilapidated turd.

The park is now being operated by the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County. In their short tenure (possibly a couple years?) they've repainted and rehabbed many of the rides, torn down fire-damaged buildings, re-opened the water park (which I understand was fairly popular last year), taken control of the hotel which was neglected by its previous owners, and brought the park out of bankruptcy. Given their shoestring budget, I think they deserve significant praise for the progress they've made so far. It's very ignorant to call the park a "dilapidated turd" without seeing the steady improvements that have been made since it reopened several years ago.

Agreed. When the park closed in 2007, I never could have imagined it would come back. During a 45 minute visit in 2014, I didn't think it would survive that winter and it was very much a turd. Is it a mega park? Not at all. But it keeps hanging on and it sounds like the locals are supporting it again and it's getting in better shape. Why anyone on here would root for any park to close doesn't make sense to me.

Well, there is quite a history with the park and its floundering and a certain reaction to those news stories around here.

Honestly, the response in this thread has surprised me because "will they/won't they" Conneaut threads usually turn into the easy joke...and little sympathy.

I would agree previously, but it seems like the people running it now may actually be doing a good job. I'm going to give it a couple years before I visit again, but the park no longer seems to be hanging on by a thread, and have plans in place to actually move forward at a pace that may work for them.

Would seem I need to make another trip considering my last visit was 2006ish. Cheers to the Economic Progress Alliance and all the folks who have improved CLP. Exposition Park lives yet another season!

Okay... I love Suicidal Tendencies, and I love that song, but I'm not sure I get the connection to CLP.

(P.S. I thought the easy joke was about them setting their buildings on fire every time they needed money.)

P.P.S. - on their 2013 reunion album "13," there's a line in the first song where Mike asks "Can someone please get me a Diet Pepsi?"

From the article... "It's an ambitious undertaking, with fires to put out along the way."
