Atari releases RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic for iOS and Android

Atari has just released RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, a "new" game for mobile based on the Atari-produced theme park sims. Classic takes its cues from the original RTC and RTC2, offering a more simple take on park design, construction and management than more recent titles in the series. It's also the first RTC game for mobile that isn't stuffed full of microtransactions.

I bought it first thing this morning and have been playing it all day. Loving having true RCT again, especially no matter where I go! :D

How close is the gameplay to the original? Is the coaster editor the same?

Yes, gave up my Big Mac to purchase this game. Found it good enough that I would have given up my fries also.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

One thing is that it seems that it crashes a lot for others after the first year on the first scenario

Hey, let's ride (random Intamin coaster). What? It's broken down? I totally didn't expect that.

I haven't had any crashes and the gameplay is practically identical to the originals. Coaster editor is spot on. I'm just as addicited to this and having as much fun as I did on the originals.

How is it to control now that you are using a touchscreen to do it? More specifically how difficult is it to place small items and change them?

I'm on an iPhone 7 Plus, so don't know what it's like on smaller screens, but I don't have any issues placing anything. Placing trees and benches, popping baloons (or not- those ones that shift to the side when you try are there, too!), placing staff, picking up guests, adjusting the height of something, etc. etc. It all just works.

I've been playing the game for a few days now (playing on an original iPad mini running iOS 8.0) and I've had no problems. Controls are very simple, little to no glitching, and all the fun of RCT right in my hands. Very much worth the $6

I've finished a scenario on my phone (Google Pixel) and my tablet (Nexus 9), and I have to admit that it's awkward on the phone because it's too small. Also: This will eat your battery alive.

Agreed on awkwardness and battery issues. But that hasn't stopped me from pressing onward.

Anyone else unable to make curved lifts on Junior Coasters? The prefabs have them, but I can't put them in on custom ones.

The junior coasters do not have curved lifts, it's the spiral coaster that does. Just choose spiral lifthill from the element selection thing.

On a side note, I'm having more issues with vandalism than I did with the pc version

I'm noticing the increased vandalism as well. Quite annoying.

Also when I tried to build a custom go-cart track, there are no buttons to slope the track up and down. The prefab track has them. I'm assuming this is just a bug or glitch and not intentional.

I tried building a custom launched steel coaster and the maximum speed I can launch from the station is either 23 or 27mph (I can't remember which). That's not enough to even complete a vertical loop out of the station. I'm hoping this is just another bug.

Yeah, I noticed the vandalism thing too. Like, I have 12 blocks of sidewalk on the first scenario, and I see the benches and lamps getting wrecked even though a security guard was just there.

It's the same in my real life neighborhood when you compare 1999 vs 2016
