Six Flags Great America seeks permission to build wood roller coaster

Sweet! Sounds like it will be a RMC. I LOVED Outlaw Run so if they can make something like that I will be a very happy coaster geek. ;)

X-Flight and now this. SFGAm is back in the coaster game again. Love it!!!!!

This is a surprise. They just got a big coaster last year.

Great America has been out of the coaster wars for too long. X-Flight is just lukewarm to the general public. The days of Shockwave type thrills need to return. It sure looks like the park noticed this, I can't wait.

X-Flight lukewarm?? I don't know who you're talking to but there's always a long line for it (as long as for RB) and people are giddy getting off of it...

I'm not looking to argue just post personal experience. Last visit we rode X-Flight twice in 5 minutes in the morning. After a hour wait for Batman later in the day we only waited 20 minutes for X-Flight. I love the ride but frequent visits show and we are not complaining, short lines are the rule for such a new attraction. My best friend coined the phrase "Popular as ever". Is this a put down no. Great America guests want a kick your butt ride. X-Flight is comfortable smooth and we wait for Bull twice as long as X-Flight. Meet us there Wednesday I'll have an X-Flight shirt on and we will show you. But what really matters is a new coaster is coming let's celebrate that fact.

Long lines do not automatically equate to a popular ride, and short lines do not automatically equate to an unpopular ride.

Yep. It's all about operations and capacity. The shortest line at Disneyland is usually Pirate's of the Caribbean and Timber Mountain for Knott's. I wouldn't call either the least popular by a long shot.

Because building a wood structure to that height would be prohibitively expensive and take up a lot more space than they have.

Plus it would be a bad ride.

Wow... I just liked a Tyler post! I too am waiting for the announcement that they will be doing MS up NTG style. But I'm pretty sure they're going to ride the Gatekeeper wave a few more years.

To get back on topic, I think a RMC style coaster would be a great fit for the place. But a RMC "wooden" style coaster combined with Viper might just go to make Eagle obsolete. Not a bad thing really. While I have very fond and nostalgic childhood memories of Eagle, I can't remember my last good ride on it.

I haven't been following this announcement at all. Is there any chance at all that the announcement is in fact an RMC re-tracking of Eagle?
