Six Flags Great America seeks permission to build wood roller coaster

Posted | Contributed by redman822

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee plans to seek village permission to construct what may be the fastest-ever wooden roller coaster, officials said. If built, the ride would be in the theme park's County Fair area where the Iron Wolf roller coaster once stood. Iron Wolf operated from 1990 to 2011.

Looks like Six Flags had some fun with the placeholder for their new attraction webpage just like Kings Island did.

Ermahgerd is my favorite meme of all time. Ever. I would SO love it if it was actually true.
Kings Island should have been so clever.

Yeah, Ermahgerd is great. My kid clued me into that meme. I'll have to share that link with her, she'll love it. Too good.

Thanks for sharing.

Ermahgerd... so much better than YOLO.

It is very hard to tell just how long this coaster is going to be. I'll tell you I'm feeling better it looks longer then I thought. As for inversions well 8/29 will reveal all that. One thing it will be steep and fast and Great America really needed that. Let's just wait and see if WGN is correct it's the biggest investment in the parks history. Makes you wonder just what they are not telling us yet.

What's with the part circled in blue? What kind of funky element looks like that from above? Like an Immelman-y loop and twist sort of piece thingy...

Though overall this is good for SFGAm...

This layout is pathetic. This is Six Flags patheticism top to bottom. This is a waste of what this design can truly do. This ride will likely end up a 3 out of 5, and maybe, from happenstance, a 4/5. Sadly, nothing to get excited over. Truly angering.

Wow. You can tell all that by looking at a fuzzy blue print? Let alone one that closely resembles one of the top coasters in the world for multiple decades (Phoenix).

bjames, you're nowhere near there! I try not to get 'truly angered' over a distant amusement park's plans, particularly if it's one I visit maybe once every ten years or so. I'm in Ohio and I've never even been on Raging Bull. It's interesting to a degree, but really I could care less what they do, it doesnt affect me.

Especially when we don't even know for sure what this is.

There you go, getting all logical again.

So the rest of you finally caught up to me?

Apparently not. Which is why I said ha!

I've yet to ride something that RMC had touched that hadn't been outstanding.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

When I first read that, I thought it said "something that RCMAC had touched".

In the midwest we are blessed with so many park options. You guys in Ohio come over and try Great America, we go to Kings Island and Cedar Point, it's all good. Next season Kings Island, Kentucy Kingdom , and Great America all are building coasters. From most midwest cities 3 choices within a 6hr or less drive. That sounds like an awesome next year to me.

I'm very certain that's what he meant.

Just not "touched" in the 1001 Nachts sense.... touch in the GOOD way!
