How Much Longer Until B&M takes on the 4D?

If Stealth came out in 99', and B&M came out with a flying dutchman in 01', do you think in 03' B&M will have prototyped their version of a 4D?

You are wrong about B&M. They did not take on the flying coaster becuase of Vekoma, nor did they get the idea from Vekoma. B&M have been tweaking their flying design for something like six years. I think it was supposed to open earlier, like in 98, at Alton Towers, but they were not ready. Vekoma did it quick, and beat them to it. Walter and Claude must have been pist;).

Vekoma's is rough. If B&Ms is smooth, they'll have a winner. Firstest is not always bestest.

Now, who said the 4D will catch on? I hope it will, but look at Flashback, the Space Diver design was going to be the next big thing, where is it today? One ride was produced, then never again. As far B&M, they could, but that design and the cars and everything are all patented. B&M, if they do, are going to take there time working on this. Plus, I think they a mainly just working the the "Flying Machine" right now. But who knws, I sure don't, they could have something up there sleeves just waiting. Just wait.

Hmmm....Then maybe we need to make more Space Diver design.... :)

To tell you the truth I don't think B&M will ever make 4Ds because I think B&M design simpler types of rides. I mean they don't build a variety of rides (Inverted, hyper, floorless, looping, standup and dive machine and flying). I mean it's taken them a couple of years to plan out AIR. So if they do plan to build a 4D it won't be until 2005.

Perhaps I was misinformed -- I've been under the impression that Vekoma's flying dutchman was under development for many, many years.

And it would be wrong to say that the companies aren't in competition with eachother. Of course they are, because they're in the same business. But I expect whatever B&M's flying design ends up being to be spectacularly different than Vekoma's. It doesn't make any business sense to design exactly what your competitor has, because then your buyer could get it anywhere. I don't doubt that B&M and Vekoma have long been designing their flying coasters, and that they've known the other was doing the same for quite some time. And as for whatever B&M's 'retaliation' project is for Arrow's 4D, I hope it to be anything _but_ a 4D coaster. I want something unique, because we can all get a 4D down at SFMM. If they build their own version of the 4D, I'm sure it will be fabulous, but why travel to who-knows-where to ride it when I can get basically the same thing somewhere else.

Not to mention that X hasn't even been fully built yet, and we're already looking for someone to re-design it...

I don't think B&M will try to take on the 4D, although if B&M came up with a similar style of coaster I'd put money on the B&M version being better than the Arrow version, just like I'd put money on their version of the Flying coaster being light years better than the Vekoma version. Stealth has gotten a lot rougher since last year. Anyways, I would be satisfied if B&M continued making Hyper, Floorless, Inverted and Sitdown coasters. Also, I REALLY think we need a HUGE Vertical coaster from B&M here in the states. Something over 200ft. with inversions, if it's possible. That would make me run to a park more than the 4D. Just my opinion. :)

Exactly. Talk about a topic that is jumping the gun. I think Arrow has a winner on its hands. I just have that gut feeling that this coaster will put them back in the race. I could be wrong.

Why would they want to take 4D on ... the bottom line is ... the bottom line. B&M Machines are selling. They dont need to prove a point but if they ever did, we know they will provide.

As for Arrow, seems like they need this to stimulate what has been some stagnant years for them. D H Morgan and co have been working fine getting call-ups to big jobs like the Phantom rebuild and Steel Dragon, which were or wouldve been Arrow jobs in the past. Yes, I know about the Arrow heads going to Morgan and the co-operation that exist between the two companies but true-American designed Steel Coasters have somehow fell roadside to Euro-designed Machines. So Im looking for X to not only revolutionise the ride indusrty but revitalise American-design rides in the process!

I just think you should know that vertical drops aren't all that good. If they had some inversions afterwards and turned it into a full length coaster then a vertical drop would be a good addition, but Oblivion isnt that good, so you Americans should stop moaning that England has got something you haven't - you've got a lot more we haven't!

What I would like to know...is when the B/M Flying coaster is coming out? I thought I heard something about Alton Towers getting one in 2002...??

I would so love to have a UK park on a similar level to Six Flags, or Paramount, not to complain, with 2002 getting closer, we're gonna have some major new coasters here, be like 1994 all over again!!

Us american do not need oblivon. It is to expensive when you can put in a cheapo Ta2k like the one in Kings Dominion And at fuyikjaki highlands in japan. You guys do know they are real cheap.

Wouldn't arrow have some sort of patent on the design since it is so unique, or am I wrong?

I wish B&M would make a coaster such as the one in the book Jumper! Have a read if you want to know what would be the best coaster designed some day. Any one read it?......
