Floorless is NOT a gimmick!!!!!
I also Like the floorless design. Its one of B&M Better car designs, Since I'm NOT a standup coaster person. I hope to see more of these coasters. I think the seats are comfortable even in inversions. my first was BKF . Not bad.... would have liked a diving loop or two on it. I see ALOT of possibilities with this design, I hope to see more!

I've been on 3 floorless coasters, Medusa West, BKF and Kraken.
To me, Kraken wins because of its full length and theaming. The zero-g-roll is awesome. The front seat is a cool ride, it seems like your feet will touch the track, as if you're skiing.
Yes, I like the floorless design but prefer an inverted because there is nothing under your feet. With a floorless, you see the track, you know something is underneath you. At the top of the lift, you say, "Here we go." With the inverted, you hang, it feels like you could fall at the top of the lift hill. You think to yourself, "Man, what if I dropped from up here?" I always get a rush when the train releases from the chain and starts down the first drop.
Look at the current pattern of B&M coasters, sit down, inverted, floorless, and now speed.
The full potential of the inverteds was never realized. On Dueling Dragons (Fire), there is a negative G hill that takes the train over Ice. You actually get airtime on this hill, and butterflys in your stomach.
So why not build a super inverted with 3 or 4 massive hills like an out and back? Then after the ride slows down, have it go thru the regular ending with the loops and spins. Take any inverted, add 4 massive hills to the first part of it, with the first one going up over 250+ feet, then let it finish like it normally does. That gives the ride 3 sections, instead of 2. I want them to build a hyper inverted.

Floorless Coasters are good, but they are only good in the front, that is basiclly why people are saying its one big gimmick in that Its no good in the other rows.
The Front is still the only way to ride these coasters though, you get the feeling your feet are about to hit the track, and its a great feeling, Zero G Rolls are amazing too, I have been on Kraken and I felt I went round twice on one of these, Strange Feeling, Strong Forces in the back too, Loved it.

I'm tired of hearing this and that being a gimmick. Just because of something new and totally revolutionary comes out here goes people saying its just a gimmick. Just like when the inverted first came out it was mean't to give a different ride experience just like the Floorless.

Wow. I never thought I could disagree with someone more than that. I mean, I can't even begin to comprehend how you would think this. You say that you liked the Zero-G roll of Kumba better than Kraken's? Well, I don't know why, but it couldn't have been because of the Zero-G part. On Kraken, you are completely weightless through the entire element. On Kumba, you mostly get tossed around, and feel the weightlessness only at the pinnacle of the inversion. Overall I found Kumba to be great ride, with some good positive and lateral G's, but no real long out of seat experiences. Kraken on the other hand is as 2Hostyl called it, a perfect ride. The drop is one of the best, and every element packs a good punch with tons of airtime. Plus, I never felt a bump on Kraken, and well, Kumba is aging. But hey just my humble opinion. To each their own.

Some people could say the same for normal sit down coasters as well. So therefore does that make normal sitdowns "gimmicks" too?
A gimmick on a coaster, to me, would be something you do to the ride to make people go on it who wouldn't go on it without the gimmick. (follow that?) If floorless coasters had normal sitdown trains on it, everyone would still ride it. The floorless trains add a change to all the monotony of sitdown coasters.
According to the definition that I have heard of gimmick by some of the posters, adding anything that is different and new to a coaster is a gimmick. Calling it a gimmick makes it sound bad. Imagine not being able to create new and useful ways to make new coasters exciting, i.e.:faster coasters, higher coasters, and flying coasters. FloridaCoasterRider -- First off, let me just establish that I greatly enjoyed Kraken, and I rode it 17 times the day I visited SWF. But to me, it just seemed to lack that intensity that I crave in a coaster. The drop was good, but I didn't think it to be fabulous--even in the back. And you do float through many of the inversions, but they lacked intensity. I like to feel those positive G's at times throughout a ride, and especially on a looper. And I miss the old beemer roar. Standing under Kumba on the midway and having the sound shake you is simply incredible. As far as Kumba's aging, it rode smoothly when I visited last July. I still can't believe that I've heard people complain about Wildfire and Kumba being rough. I wonder how many people would be on this site if the internet had come ten years earlier, and Arrow loopers were still the undisputed top dawg in coastering (some might argue that they still are).
Kumba is, as 2Hostyl put it, fierce. The ride never lets up after you start, and it hurls you through that amazing roll. I still get chills thinking about that inversion--flying upward while turning upside down. The ride seems to build and build until you just fly through the finale. Kraken, like I said earlier, just seemed to go through the motions, providing a fun ride but nothing too amazing or exciting for me. But if you love it, more power to you. I can see how it could be some people's favorite--but just not mine.
As for the floorless argument, I maintain that it is a "gimmick" in that it does not significantly add to ride experience. Inverted coasters offer a completely different ride than sit down loopers, but a floorless coaster is a sit down looper with modified trains. Does this mean it's a bad thing? No. But I argue that the ride given by Wildfire's trains and the ride given by floorless trains has little difference. The layouts of the floorless coasters are what, in my opinion, make them all the rage--not the rolling stock.

Let me describe it a different way. I thought of this one last night, you might agree with me, or disagree with me. Consider the two Roars. The one on the east coast has PTC (I think?) trains, and the one on the west coast has Millennium flyer trains. The one on the west is supposedly slightly better because of the cool trains. The ride, however, is exactly the same. Would you call them different kinds of rides?
Again, just like the floorless, I think this new kind of train adds a little to the ride. However, I wouldn't call Roar West a different kind of coaster than Roar East. Just a little thought I had.
