Did CP's Wildcat Never Open This Season?

I knew it closed and was being removed, but I saw...here and on RCDB..a closing date of 2011. Somehow I thought it ran earlier this season, but I guess not.

Nope. If you go back and read through this thread, it appears it was gone by May 9th and the park opened on the 12th.

It did test and was ready to run for the season, had a crew and everything. So would that count as being open for 2012?

Nope. To me it doesn't count as being open unless the public gets to ride it.

If he starts going by "Hildebrandt the Destructor" we'll know for sure that GateKeeper got its name from Ghostbusters. There will be a walk-around Stay Puft Marshmallow Man joining Franklin and Woodstuck soon enough.

My understanding is the ride was licensed to operate in 2012. $1100 down the drain :-(.

Yes, we know. Many times over.

It's "Hildebrandt the Destroyer," in his words, so I don't think it's a Ghostbusters reference. I hope he doesn't hate me for sharing that, but it was too funny coming out of his mouth not to repeat!

I actually confirmed that with the State. An operating permit *was* issued for the ride.

And recouped with fewer than 20 FL sales.

I was thinking about giving the same basic reply, except I was going to say, "220 regular Pepsis." I like your answer better.

Except that those are things that would likely have been sold whether or not the ride was removed. It's tough to know if Luminosity itself has brought people to the park. But, I'm sure it's leaving people with a better end-of-night memory than the giant screen did. Which in turn might bring those people back again sooner. Additionally, the Carley Rae Jepsin (spelling?) show likely brought enough people in to more than made up for any wasted off-season revenue on WildCat.

$1,100 (I'm assuming that number is correct. I haven't seen anyone dispute it.) is but a small amount of money that was likely spent on the ride in the off season. I'm sure the labor for off-season maintenance is far more than that.

How much could they have received when they sold it for scrap?

The $1,100 figure is an assumption based on the fees listed on the State of Ohio Amusement Ride Permit Application.

Not to mention the thing apparently received a wheel chair elevator during the off season as well. I can't imagine those are very cheap. Then again, Disaster Transport got one for this season as well, and I'd assume they knew that ride would be coming out.

I would imagine the majority of the most expensive components for the elevator can be used on Gatekeeper, or wherever. They're likely standardized.

And still, assuming the elevator isn't reused, and even including the $1100...aren't we talking about a drop in the bucket? I don't expect we'll be seeing a headline anytime soon stating "Removal of carnival coaster forces Cedar Fair into bankruptcy".

Can't they just move the elevator with the ride when they send it to Dorney?
