Say Goodbye To Windjammer Surf Racers...

"Construction" or "De-construction" walls as it is, were recently put up around the perimeter of the Windjammer Surf Racers roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm. This is a good sign of its next phase of removal from the park.

I also saw the construction walls up yesterday. They go from the edge of the Supreme Scream queue around to the Wipeout (scrambler) entrance. I wonder if those flatrides will be moved, closed doring construction, or what?

I asked an "official looking" woman who was right in front of the wall...
ME: So, are you finally getting rid of this thing?
HER: Yep.
ME: What is going to replace it?
HER: We don't know yet.
ME: You don't know, or you can't tell anyone yet?
HER: We really don't know yet.

Right.

with all fairness Soggy, give the "offical looking woman" some credit. roller coasters are serious business for parks, and they wouldn't tell anyone in the GP. I wrote a letter to Carowinds asking what was new this next season, cuz they got ride of Wayne's World themeing, I wrote that letter in March, and they still haven't replied.

From what I've seen/heard of the Windjammer, they may not have anything planned, yet, but wouldn't you think they would want to be ridden of it ASAP? I wouldn't want that thing heapin' up my landscape.......

Is it just me or is the removal of Windjammer long past it's due? Get that thing down and let's forget all about this atrocious infamous disaster of a coaster. I'm glad I got a ride in before it was closed down, but boy that think was headache inducing. And we almost had a rollback on that thing. I'm glad to see it go.

Well, it's about time. Soggy, it's obvious she's not going to say anything. And FenderStartocaster, even in a nice way, she won't say anything. Let along if she even knows anything.

Jephry, that's right. Windjammer is still quite releatively new, as it was built in 1997. But if you knew why the park was getting rid of it, then I don't think you'll ever have to ponder about this situation again.

• Can not operate in winds as low as 3-5 MPH

• Faulty restraints were replace by new ones in 2nd week of operation

• Park reported mis-aligned tracks

• Wrinkles found in the main frame of cars

• Constant need for maintenance and repair, costing park $2+ million in extensive repairs.

• Frequent malfunctions and down time

• Only raced side by side up until early 1998. Yellow track closed in 1999, leaving only red side running. Entire ride closed in March 2000.

I doubt the woman knew anything, but I'm sure others do. But this is great news, Windjammer was a disaster waiting to happen. So what do you guys think? how long will it take to dismantle this thing? I'm taking bets... ;) *** This post was edited by DWeaver on 6/16/2001. ***

Well, they did call it *Windjammer* didn't they? ;)

MM You think Knott's though about taking OTSR's off the ride? Still they have all those other problems though. Knott's really needs another great coaster

I really didn't think the ride was all that bad. I was the first one back on it one day because the ride stopped during the lift and I waited for 1 1/2 hours just talking to the lady at the front entrance of it. I liked it so much I wanted to go on it again but the line was already a 30+ long wait after I got off. I really don't care that they are taking it out. Just build a big ride this time.

bring back Soap Box Racers!!!!

Knott's knows what's in the pipe. Trust me.

YEAHHHHHH!!! Finally! What a waste of space. Now they can start on something worth having there. I never actually got on Windjammer, but from everything I've heard I'm REALLY glad. :)

It's about time. Maybe my roommate will renew his pass now. It's been said, but I'll say it again: That thing has been standing for far too long now.

This coaster acted just like the Bat at PKI. It was shut down after a couple of years of operation due to problems

The only difference is that people loved the Bat and hated Windjammer. And Windjammer was much more poorly designed.

Well I had a feeling that she would not tell me what it would be. I just thought I would ask. It does not hurt to ask, you know? My point was, Knott's DOES know what will go there, they just are not going to tell some yutz like me. (especially since I was wearing my Coasterbuzz t-shirt)
