will simulators ever replace rollercoasters

Well lets see, if this were to ever happen i would never go on one. I would probably resort to building a coaster along with other people who want them back.

Simulators dont really thrill me like a coaster. I guess just knowing that your not moving more than a foot in the closed contraption (except for spiderman) isnt thrilling to me. I hope to god it never happens.

Seriously, though - what might be cool would be virtual reality helmets built into a real roller coaster. Then you could have different scenery or theming as you rode it - or even trick films when you think you are about to experience one element, but the coaster actually does something different.

I Really think it is intresting on how much it cost for superman some 100 million dollars when they could have had 4 MF's or like ten huge cci's. The concept is totally impractical. I mean it is like spending $200,000 for a toy car when you can buy the real thing for 20,000.

i know... roller coasters attract more people than almost any simulator that costs the same

No matter how real companies can make the simulator feel real (i.e. blowing wind in the face to simulate speed), it will never be the same when you walk up to a coaster that can be 300 ft. tall compared to a simulator that is around 20 ft. tall. Just looking at a coaster gives me a rush.

I hate simulators. The ones like Back to the Future, and Star Wars literally make me sick.
I don't ride them anymore, just walk on by.
Spiderman was ground breaking, but MIB is a joke. People re-ride that one just to get a higher score, otherwise, it's just a spinning car, same thing as Cat in the Hat at IOA, a kiddie ride. I agree, the 100+ million for that ride could have bought 4 huge roller coasters. Give us real coasters.

Yes, but once simulators can recreated wind, noise, smell, g's. and all other aspects of roller coasters. So we still have a thousand years of roller coasters. I'll be long dead before coasters are extinct!

I hear that California Soarin' (DCA) can pretty much *do* all that.

And I *do* think that simulators will become more and more popular. So what if they are more expensive. They have at least ONE advantage over rollercoasters....SPACE. That's right, you average sim doesnt take up acres and acres of land so an amusement complex can have many more sims in the space taken up by just one coaster. This maybe the type of expansion we will see for "landlocked" parks. (Paging SFEG...Paging SFAW..)

Guys, guys, guys. The problem here is that most of you are assuming that for some reason sims will one day "replace" coasters, when that is really not the idea of the rides. Parks add things to the parks to add variety, and capactiy, and revenue.......sims are good investments for the park because they are thrilling, the public rides them, and it offers something different from coasters.

Look at it this way:

When OLFOF was built, it was pretty revolutionary, but no one was claiming that LSM/LIM technology was going to replace the lift hill. Its just obvious that the launch offered something different for park guests. Look at this from a revenue stand point, and a park's stand point, and its pretty obvious why sims and rides involving sim technology IE spiderman (its not superman, buddy) are a good investments for a park.

Oh yeah, and one last thing. I would venture that most of you that are giving the thumbs down to Spiderman have not ridden it. Trust me, its a mind blowing experience.

I tried a simulator once. it was the worst thing that I've ever been on(it was 5 bucks well wasted)give me a good old coaster any day!

roller coasters rule,simulators drool,in my opinion.

Actually, CP does have a simulator in the arcade on the main midway. It offers simulated rides of *get this* CP coasters.

IMO, I don't think any generation will get tired of the physical thrill of a roller coaster...While a simulator can do things a coaster can't, when was the last time you saw typical roller coaster emotions in a simulator? A roller coaster affects the physical being, while a simulator affects the mental being and a ethereal ( higher emotional) level.
