will simulators ever replace rollercoasters

Does anyone here ever think that the simulators will ever replace the rollercoaster. Almost every time tv does a special on rollercoasters and themeparks they always say that the rollercoaster is going to be replace by they simulator like superman. I doubt it will hapen , unfortunatly i am wrong sometimes, but what does every else think.

Gosh people can't you take a joke. Just laugh and get on with life.
God I hope not!

How's Titan?
I hope to God that they do not. But I am sure that they will not. They will probably be made more often, but people will always want to experience real rides. Why is Cedar Point voted the best, because it has the most coasters and NO simulators.

I agree with you Jordon. People get all up in arms over new technology, then it wears off its novility. Simulators were cool for a while, but got old because they were so rigid. Also, for me at least, it was hard to "lose myself in the experience". I still always felt like i was sitting on a shifting chair watching a movie. Coasters have the all-encompassing experience to their advantage. When you're on a coaster, you know where you are, and it utilizes its surroundings to enhance the ride. And roller coasters have an infinate number of possibilities to make different rides. Simulators are constrained by their design. You cant make a room of chairs flip and give you airtime. The closest a sim has gotten to rivaling coasters for ride experience is the Spideman ride at IOA. There is a reason there are dozens of new coasters built every year, and few sims. Viva la Coasters!

That is honestly one of my biggest pet peeves. So I am going to say a NO! No simulator does, or ever will give you the feeling that you get on a rollercoaster. I really get so infuriated when I see the guys on the coaster shows saying things like, "This is the future of thrill rides, someday we won't be riding coasters". Yeah right. I mean, even the best of them like Spiderman, don't even compare to rides like the Hulk which is 10 ft. away. I feel simulators will drop out of the picture in 10-20 years once the novelty of them is gone. It's like saying we won't need to travel anymore now that we have the travel channel! Get out in the real world and ride roller coasters!

My opinion here is that simulators will never replace or succeed roller coasters. Simulators IMO are artifical and roller coasters are just natural.

Dorney Park is da bomb!
Good one Florida Coaster Rider, I like the Travel Channel joke.

I hope not, but as long as coasters still offer the incredible thrills that they do right now this will never happen.
Simulators suck compared to coasters, End of story. That's all I have to say.

Riddler's Revenge-Can You Stand It?
I hate simulator rides there so bumpy and jerky.I almost threw up on Back to the Future. I would take a rollercoaster anyday. I know there soppose to be that way but, coasters are way better.
Never, not in a million years! No matter how advanced technology gets nothing will ever be able to duplicate the real thing. There is just something about the roller coaster that is unique. Roller coasters give you a rush through the sights, sounds and feelings that will never be matched by any virtual reality sim.
Simulators = stupid, boring idea. Nothing will replace roller coasters. Where do you get the wind from a roller coaster on a simulator?

No
id say no, coasters actually give you a rush not like some crappy sim that moves on a track that never gets 5 feet above the floor.
If you're going to all the tropuble to go on a sim, why not just go on a real one?

True. Extremely true. I don't think anything could replace going 90 miles an hour on Millennium Force. Or going through all of the loops on the defunct Steel Phantom. It will just never happen IMO.

"Welcome back Raptor riders. How was your flight?"
And what bugs me even more is that in most cases a coaster is cheaper than a simulator!

Hey theme parks, if you can afford a coaster, get a coaster. It will bring the crowds you want to your park... If you build them, we will come.;)

NEVER! A simulator tries to immitate reality. A roller coaster is reality. A sim can never be as good as the real thing.
