Mechanical Problems at SFWOA

Jeff, When I say let's cut them some slack, I mean the Mechanics. I totaly agree with you that the park has many problems including rides not being open. I'm just saying cut the workers some slack. It's not their fault SFWoA doesn't hire enough people to maintain the rides.

Has anyone else noticed parks having more trouble with Vekomas than other manufacturer's rides?

Please note that Demon Drop and Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall are NOT identical, in fact, they aren't even close. Okay, the ride mechanical systems are similar. But the electronics are completely different, and Mr. Hyde is on its third (at least) control system.

What is the problem with all the boomeranges? I know that a couple broke but was it a design in all the coasters?

How can you compare worker's at CP to SFWoA they both have diffrent attendace levels, CP's being nearly double the size of SFWoA. Now the more money you have coming into the park the more they spend. CP can afford to hire double the amount as SFWoA. As soon as more people start coming to SF the more people you hire. You are comparing the work force that is needed to take care of nearly 3.5 million guest's compare to around 1.7 million and that was a 42percent jump from the year before. Give them time they will hire more. I know CP employees are nicer than SF but that takes time. CP has been running for so long that people absolutely love the place have growen up on CP. They want to work at CP during the summer, I think SFWoA employee's are there just for the job.

While I might agree partially with that theory, I can almost guarantee that in-park per capita spending at any Six Flags park is higher than at Cedar Point. Why? Because everything is marginally more expensive. Revenue should be budgeted against attendance. The more people you bring in, the more you should be serving. That's true for any business anywhere.

I still contend that this is a management and recruiting issue (and therefore one that is not the customers' problem).

X-Flight broke down while I was in line for it. Needless to say, I felt kind of uneasy until we left the lift. Front car is great!

This is Six Flags World of Adventure ****. Last year SFH has got the same problems. This year SFH has not this problems. Most days all rides are open and without breakdowns.

I was there today and noticed that Mind Eraser was not running and BKF was down for the entire first half of the day. Though it did look like they were doing some kind of maintenance on BKF so I understand the delay. What gets me is that Mind Eraser seemed to be not running for no reason, they weren't working on it, it was just sitting there all day. They should always try for all the rides to be working so that people from far away areas can get everything in on their visit. For my family and I it doesn't matter because we have season passes there, and if a ride is broken down we have other chances, but SFWoA has to consider some people may not get a second chance for quite a while.

Mind Eraser is down because the Fiesta Texas incident has shut down ALL SF boomerangs.

BKF was hit by lightning late Sunday night (according to park employees on Monday) and was down all day Monday, and part of Tuesday.

The only complaint I have is a bad Villain this year. X-F is brand new, and still has kinks. But, this Villain squaling and sudden roughness is bad.

Villain??...Rough???....explain this to me one more time, because I found it to be just as smooth as last year.

Some of you need to quit using Six Flags as a whole as a problem. Not all Six Flags parks have constant downtime on the rides and poor service. What I dont understand is if all of these SF parks are owned by the same corporation, you would think they would create an across the board uniform policy on how to handle ride downtime problems. If SFWOA is having that much of a problem(not just ride downtime but in general), than like myself and Jeff have said in the past, the boys from SF in Ohio need to take a trip and learn from the boys at SF in Illinois.

When I went on the 26th everything was being run perfectly. There were no ride closures, rides were running fine, and overall I had a great day at that Six Flags park.

THe only bad thing was 3 rides were running 1 train. X-Flight I can understand. But Raging Wolf Bobs and Big Dipper? You think they would have 2 running.

Anyways, it was a great day on the 26th.

Don't always slam Six Flags, I'm SURE Cedar Fair has some bad days too. No one is perfect. And there is more of a chance to slam Six Flags because there are much more parks that they own/operate.

I haven't seen RWB run 2 trains in many many years. Don't be too upset, It was like that before it became a Six Flags. :)

Chitown: I agree, SFGAm is an exception to the rule in my experience. Like I've said before, I think they inherited the culture of the previous owner.

kcies13-SFGAm: This has nothing to do with Cedar Fair having bad days (and in my experience, Cedar Point hasn't had a bad day in dozens of visits and several seasons for me). This is about SFWoA having problems.

What I don't get is that they can spend millions on a ride to attract people then not spend the money to properly staff the ride. What kind of sense does that make?

Why are all 6Flags boomerangs closed. Just don't get it.

It is standard precedure to close all existing copies of a ride should there be an accident on one of them.


Btw, on my visit to SFWOA every ride was open except Mind Eraser(not that I minded). I was very pleased and surprised. The capacity issues on X-flight were pretty non-existant on that day, and the park seemed to be running 10 times better than last year. If the park continues to improve somewhat every year, this will be one of the better parks in the chain. Stop comparing it to Cedar Point, it has never been Cedar Point, it will never be Cedar Point. Cedar Point is over 100 years old for God's sake, I'd say they've had a bit of a head start. I'd just like to see SFWOA become a workable park on it's own terms. My goodness the setting of this park is beautiful, it has so much potential.

Jeff I completely agree with you. I could live without X-Flight if the park invested that money in some decent exployees, i think we can all agree that a good amusement park is not judged by quanity but quality.

One other thing I noticed at my visit this year was while they are spending this money on coasters in an obvious effort to draw crowds. The park is not laid out well enough to handle large crowds. The pathways of this park were made to handle the smaller crowds that Geauga Lake drew. As someone as already stated, attendence rose 42% last year. If that kind of increase continues, where are the people going to go. The pathways can not handle heavy traffic like those of Kings Island and Cedar Point. Funny, it wasn't the rides, shops, food stands, or landscaping that caught my eye once inside the park, it was how narrow the pathways were.

1) As much as Six Flags would like you to forget it, Geauga Lake is also over 100 years old.

2) The pathways were always too narrow for Geauga Lake, too. It's just that in converting the park to Six Flags, they made the problem worse. Then they attracted a larger crowd.
