Mechanical Problems at SFWOA

Of all the Six Flags parks that I and my wife have attended, there was not one park in which all rides have been operational. At least one of there coasters were shut down and/or closed for most of the day. At our local park, SF Darien Lake, thier only wooden coaster, the Predator, is in extreme neglect. We had just ridden it over the weekend and could not believe how terrible the ride was. You could see the wood actually separating in spots at the station run to the lift hill. I was actually afraid of it once I had gotten on it. It is now rougher than Conneaut Lake's Blue Streak or William's Grove's Cyclone(that on had to be pushed back into the station). We both decided at that time that we would NEVER ride it again unless it was completely retracked. As for their World Famous Superman, he had definitely seen better days. With an almost nonexistant queue, it still took us about 45 minutes to get on the ride because it kept shutting down. So much for Amusement Today's Top Ten List, huh?!?!
Just to correct a previous statement, PKI has not "caught on" to CPs great operations. PKI has always had great operations. I can't think of any day a ride has gone without operation. In 8 visits so far this year, the only thing I've seen closed was Monster one morning which was a "limited day" and KCKC and the Waterworks when it was supposed to be closed. So yes, no matter how short the lines and how low the attendance is PKI always is quick and effecient with getting things in operation as long as mechanical problems are not the case(I believe CP operates the exact same way?). I have not seen a coaster closed all day, any day since SOB last year, unless and in SOB's case, severe mechanical problems. And if any still have a problem with that, don't forget delays of X, V2, V2, Phantom's Revenge, X-Flight, Batwing, Deja Vu, Deja Vu, Acrophobia, and (surprise, surprise) Deja Vu. And most of that was due to non-mechanical problems. So tell me Jeff, what exactly has been the "problem" in the past? What exactly was closed? I went last year and Magnum was closed. That doesn't mean they were a little off in good operations that day. PKI has some of the best management in the entire US. Right up there with CP. I would say the only differences between the two parks pretty much level themselves out as equally excellent parks. One has more flat rides and some better coasters(with it's share of not-so-great ones). The other makes up by having all at least decent coaster, an excellent, free waterpark, themes, and a better kids selection. Both are viewed as World Class as well.

PS-I can't remember what I just typed. I'm very tired. If anything was offensive, sorry ahead of time as it was in my opinion. Thanks!

And on the subject, all of the coasters were open the day I went besides Raging Wolf Bobs. I believe a few flat rides were closed but I don't care for many spin and spews, so I didn't pay much attention. I don't believe in the "every Six Flags has poor service, is dirty, and...(whatever)" just because the one or two you've visited are. I believe many will tell you that SFGAm, SFStL, SFoG, and even SFOT are very nice Six Flags parks and very quality. The only one I've been to of the above is SFGAm and I can assure you that one was a well-rounded park. Great coaster selection, nice theming, good service, tasty food,... It seems that a few of the duds around other major areas have really brought the chain down as a whole. Especially, the newer ones(SFA, SFWoA, SFDL, SFNE). Give it time(I sure hope I won't regret this) and it should become a better park as it progresses(hopefully).

Danny, who makes every post IHO and is the happiest guy on Earth to have not one, not two, but three terrific parks a day trip away :) *** This post was edited by Koaster King on 6/14/2001. ***
If some of you people can't even spell, I'd like to see you guys run a park/coaster.

Also, quit comparing it to CP, I am not an ignorant person that can't go to a park and have a good time, they have to pick out everything to make themselves have a bad day so they can come on here and ***** about it.

One more thing, many of you know nothing about running an amusement park/ride, so shut up. I am happy to say I can be pleased about having 3 great parks in Ohio, I don't have to sit there and compare them, they are all different and they all offer different things, if they didn't what would the point in having 3 of them be?!

I was there today too and was disappointed by the number or rides down and by the non-existant efficiency of the ride operations. See my trip report if you want specifics.

Coasters...the best natural buzz available.

"1) As much as Six Flags would like you to forget it, Geauga Lake is also over 100 years old.

Geauga Lake, yes. As a SF owned park, it's brand spanking new. I certainly prefer the park the way it is now compared to the crap it was before.

2) The pathways were always too narrow for Geauga Lake, too. It's just that in converting the park to Six Flags, they made the problem worse. Then they attracted a larger crowd.

I think their hoping that 1/3 of that crowd will now spend time on the "other" side of the park.
Too much is simply NOT ENOUGH...

I agree the pathways are way too narrow, especially the path between Grizzly Run and the Skycoaster. I was coming back from Raging Wolf Bobs and it must have taken me 3 minutes to walk 100 feet through all the congestion, they really need to do something about the pathways because the more coasters they build the more people will be coming to the park and the paths will just get worse.
