Five thrillseekers got a bigger fright than they perhaps wanted after their rollercoaster got stuck, leaving them dangling 50ft above the ground for 20 minutes. They had paid to go on the Mumbo Jumbo ride at Flamingo Land theme park in North Yorkshire. A poncho gets stuck in the wheels, bringing the car to a halt.

Two thoughts on why evacuate instead of pushing...
Thought #1: Perhaps the position of the vehicle was such that it could not be safely pushed because of interference from the crane, manlift or bucket truck used to get to the car. That is, you can reach the car with the bucket truck, but you can't just push it to the next hill because it will come around and collide with the back of the truck.
Thought #2: Or, perhaps the fire brigade was handling things, in which case their typical line of thought is to evacuate the people at all costs first, then worry about the equipment...never mind that running the equipment might be a safer option.
Don't know if either thought applies, but it's there for your consideration... :)
