Well I disagree witht he concept of "coaster snobbery". If you know what type of experiences you prefer, its quite easy for me to compare coasters, especially comparing one hyper to another. Comparing a woodie to a looper, maybe, but I dont understand why one couldnt compare two very similar coasters like Millie and Maggie.
I like Millie a lot. But everytime I go over the so-called "magnum" and "return" hills, I expect that S:ROS type ejection and it never comes because Millie wasnt designed for that. I just dont understand why cetain people cant accept that Millie is *not* the end all be all of coasters for EVERYBODY.

I thought Mf was the greatest coaster on the planet, people are entitled to thier own opinion but whenever someone says they don't like it i can't help but think they are insane

That's nice to hear Jeff. You wouldn't want anyone comparing, say, The Beast and The Raven. ;)
Anyway, it's perfectly fine for him to state his opinion about something. Even though I partially agree, MF is one of my favorite rides out there and there aren't many coasters I would skip it for. I'm a woodie and airtime whore. Boring layouts are such a snore. I wish SROS was delieved to my door. That has airtime galore. I'm not Dr. Suess, so I won't say anymore. ;)

Honestly, I'm an airtime/looper nut so I felt that Maggie was more interesting than Millie. The sheer speed is awesome, but getting thrown out of your seat in the "ejector seat" inside tunnels feels more out of control and more fun for me than the smooth as glass overbanked turns and speed hills. Millie is awesome, but I also felt that the lower intensity of the ride after the first turn was lacking something.
Chitown, I wasn't implying that MF doesn't get a lot of hype, because it does, but in my opinion one of the best coasters in the world should get even more hype. Yes, because MF is at CP it is more talked about but that isn't a bad thing, people are going to talk about CP coatsers more because of their great reputation.

The point that i am trying to get at is, MF has the layout because it goes 93 mph and its 312' tall. You cant really have the trains go around a twisted layout like goliath and titan unless you wanna kill someone wiht excessive g's.

Well then I guess it's just not my type of ride. I need more than flat speed to entertain me. For me it's just another case of bigger doesn't always equal better(anyone ride SOB lately). For a good example of this, take a ride on S:ROS at SFNE. It's 100 feet shorter, yet blows MF away IMO. It's relentless, but not just because it's fast, but Intamin really designed the hell out of this ride. This thing dives underground, throws you out of your seat countless times, and the trains don't just crest the tops of the hills, they tear over them. Like I said before, I still think MF is a really good rush, but doesn't do much else. I'm not bashing it, just giving my honest opinion(without excuses). I'm very aware that my opinion is a minority, the coaster does sit on sacred grounds and that it will probably be the #1 coaster for the next zillion years, but whatever, I still loved Magnum, Raptor and all the rest :)

The thing that I think gets me and probably a lot of other people who haven't been on MF is that a lot of Cedar Pointers act stubbornly like it's a fact that Millie is THE best coaster out there, when that is simply ones opinion. That's right, we live in America (most of us) and opinions are a natural right here. I think Millenium Force is a great coaster and all, and I really want to get down to Sandusky sometime soon, but when people start to say one ride is the best out there, I just get annoyed. I mean, this is Coasterbuzz, not Millennium Force buzz. I'm pretty sure there's a forum explicitly for this ride at Jeff's other site, GTTP. Not that I'm trying to put a ban on MF lovers. Hey, if you've found your ideal ride in MF, good for you. Just don't force your opinions upon others.
If any of you are thinking of replying to me saying I'm "just jealous" or something let me just say now that no I haven't been to many parks. The only big one (coasterwise) is SFGAm. Do I think just because It's my home park that it's the best? Nope. What do I think is the best? I dunno. I've only been to 5. Could Cedar Point be the best? maybe. I'm not going to make that decision until I've been to enough parks to decide. Certain other people apparently have chosen to do otherwise, but I guess that's up to them.
Anyway, to answer the question of "is MF overhyped": probably, simply because so many enthusiasts live in Ohio. For speed, it deserves all the credit it gets. It's ending speed is the max speed of RB, my fav. For the layout, I still think Intamin could have done better. Look at Expedition Ge-force. Oh, well. I'm done ranting and raving for now.

But Krazy, you're contradicting your own point. Sure, over zealous MF fans proclaim it's the best because it's their opinion. Why would that annoy you? No one is "forcing" (rim shot) their opinion on anyone.
It's funny how Americans are all for free speech until it's contradictory to what they believe.

actually, i believe you're wrong. it actually runs a little faster than that from release to brakes. I belive Monty Jasper said it's somewhere around 57 seconds when running decent, and i'm sure ir's a few seconds on a "warmed up" day

When I say forcing, I mean stating it in a way that doesn't say it as their own opinion. I'm all right with people saying "it's the best coaster I've ever ridden," but when they say something that means the equivalent of: "My ride is the best in the world, (despite the fact I've only ridden a dozen) period, your opinion doesn't matter so shut up" I get a little annoyed.
When people say something like: I think whoever thinks "MF" is not too good have something wrong w/ them. it makes me feel as if this person is saying "if you don't like MF, you're stupid. Your opinion doesn't matter."
As for that last bit about free speech, I don't mind if someone disagrees with me...so much as they have something to back it up with. I don't give any credit to people who say ______ coaster is the best. The only person allowed to say that is the non-existent person who has ridden every single coaster on the planet. Even then, it is simply an opinion. Best is a different word than favorite. Favorites are based upon opinions. Bests are based on pure fact. If these people were to say it's my favorite coaster, then I would be alright with it, but when they say it's the best coaster, with out having experienced others, the results are biased and show not the actual quality of coasters, but the opinion of one.

Amusement Today says CP is "The Best Amusement Park in the World". That's obviously an opinion, but they use best. There's no fact that CP is the best park, because clearly it's not to everyone. Especially Magnum as the "Best". The "best" example I can think of is how one of the dumbest movies of the year won "Best picture".

Ok, I live in Massachusetts. Last summer I made my 4th trek out to Cedar Point, this time for MF. We were lucky, it wasnt very crowded even though the weather was nice. We got on MF 3 times, front, back, and middle. After that trip I declared MF as the best I have ridden yet. I had heard all of the buzz about SROS here at Six Flags NE, but I didn't go. I figured it was hype and there was no way I had a world class coaster in my state, plus my past experience with Riverside park was that it was a dump, with an unsavory crowd. Well, this past Sunday my wifes company had their outing at SFNE and I must say, BELIEVE THE HYPE. SROS is incredible non-stop speed, airtime and intensity from beginning to end. True, it is not as high as MF, but it has all of the elements that MF should have had. MF does let up a bit after the big drop, SROS never lets up. Easily the best steel in the US right now, and definately my new number one.Next up Nitro at SFNJ in two weeks!
Don't you see what you guys are doing. Your make more hype for this coaster. Which in turn makes the people who haven't experienced it yet want to ride it even more. Then when they do ride it they don't think it's as good (I'm not saying its the best) as everybody claims it is. Your in a sense ruining the ride for others.
If you think about it, the first couple months that it was open everybody loved it. Now that its been open for a year more and more people are saying that it didn't live up to the hype. Why because us first month riders said it was amazing and the best, making everybody else raise their expectations for it. Then when they did get to ride it they didn't think it was great, it was missing something, what everybody else said it was.
With a coaster like MF you have to take it for what it is a speed coaster, and a in a way a complete circuit drop ride. Nothing more nothing less.
Most of all don't expect anything, just get on any new to you ride with an open mind and have fun. That's why I like almost every ride I ride. I ran out of air screaming and laughing the first time on MF, Beast, and SOB, and I love those coasters the most. They aren't the best because the best coaster will never be built. There will always be something that they could do to make a better coaster.
