Intentionally misspelling Santa as Satan is an old, old joke that predates me and my knowledge of the hotel.
Wasn't it a typo in a trip report ... something like a dozen years ago?
It stuck. :)

Could be. For me, the first thing the Santa/Satan reference brings to mind is SNL's Church Lady. As she's asking, "Who is this Santa?" she's rearranging magnetic letters on a board to spell Satan, "Could it be....SATAN?!?!?"
