Boomerang Bashing

I guess your right, but you can feel the difference going around a huge loop on Dragon Khan and then going around the small loop on Dragon Khan.

Yes, they do get pretty boring and repetitive after a while.. I guess at first they are not so bad, but you get sick of them.

the problem with clones, for me, is that there's no origionality. use your imaginations people! still, I see how a boomerang can help a small park with limited income and space. however, I have discovered a new hatred for boomerangs: they turned my dad off to shuttles. he refused to ride Vertical Velocity when we went to SFGAm. Vekoma will pay! ::balls up fists::
I have heard many times that the wheel assembly has alot to do with roughness, I am not sure what it is about them, can anyone verify it and be more specific? I think it has something to do with the wheel assembly being able to move a little, it isn't totally fixed.

btw I meant to put this with my last post, but remembered after I hit the submit buttor. anyway in response to the roughness thing, I believe it has to do with the banking. more specifically with the transition between bankings. if a coaster quickly switches from a right turn to a left turn then I experience head banging. example: Iron Wolf. great layout, but quite a bit of roughness for a B&M. it's fairly compact, especially the back. and its only in the back that I've had problems. now look at B:TR. the space between the helix and that turn is quite long. I experience no head banging until I hit the flat spins. again, there isn't much room to slowly roll into them. the other B&M's I've ridden have been ultra smooth. they've also been the larger of B&M's coasters. B&M allow the speed of the train to determine the size of the element instead of allowing the size of the element to determine the speed as other companies do (i.e. Arrow. Shockwave at SFGAm has its first loop elevated it slow the train down unlike B&M who make the larger elements like on Kumba, among others)
B&M Tycoon:
Yes, wheel assemblies are a big part of the roughness factor. B&M and Intamin use a system where every wheel (like all 120 wheels on a MF train) is in contact with the rail at all times. To allow the train to negotiate track that curves in any manner the side and bottom wheels are "spring loaded" to the track to allow give. On the other side of the spectrum Arrow and Vekoma have a large gap between the rail and the side & under wheels. This results in those sets of wheels getting "slammed" into the track, and they also have to accelerate pretty quickly when they are suddenly forced onto the track. That's one of many factors (but a big one) that make them rough.

I wonder why Arrow and Vekoma do that. It seems a bit silly to me.
Well, I would guess that B&M / Intamin hold patents for that kind of wheel assembly.

Rideman..???

Yah, but a GAP between the side, upstop, and riding wheels? That doesn't seem logical to me.
That's the only way it was for over 100 years. Only recently has that gap been eliminated by those nice Swiss folk. Anymore, I don't see why other steel designers don't come up with a similar system. My only guess is they can't get around the existing patents. (Or it's just lazyness :) )

I do not mind the boomerangs. They are decent rides, not too rough to become unenjoyable. But when I go to a new park, I will be in no hurry to try out their Boomerang.
I would like to see Knotts get the new trains for Boomerang, maybe that would help a little. At least they look better.. :)

I actually think the Knotts Boomerang trains look kinda cool. Lets hope that boomerangs are just another fad, like those loopers in the 80's *** This post was edited by Davis on 6/2/2001. ***

Exactly! What's with all these boomerangs and invertigo's poping up? I hope enjoy them more if they were
A) smoother
B) had different track layouts

I've been on a boomerang, and I have to say its not as rough as people say.I've been on Sidewinder at Hersheypark and comparing to The Chiller:Robin Side, Sidewinder is less rough. Stepped on gum in sidewinder though.
