The Planning Board has approved several changes at the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park. Representatives of Great Adventure appeared before the board on Oct. 16 to present their plans for the coming season. Changes include two new kiddie rides, grandstands for a children's show and automated tolls.

I'd guess that the automated parking will give entry to the season parking pass folks. Seems like a positive move to reduce labor costs and not inconvenience the guest too much. (provided they work)

I wonder if they'll impliment some automatic turnstyles at the ticket gates too.

Sweet. Free up staff for rides...all three of them.

If they were the same department that would be a good plan, heh.

Not without some biometric to prevent pass sharing.

Or you could simply use your pass once per day.

Doesn't stop you from handing your pass to your buddy on a day you have to work.

Having two vice-presidents of an engineering firm, an attorney, and a director of construction represent you at a planning board meeting costs a pretty penny. And it doesn't sound like they were presenting anything that anyone could really object to.

I don't know... the director of construction is probably a salaried position. The VP's of the engineering firm probably went for free if their company gets the contract, and the attorney is probably under contract anyhow.

Does seem odd that they'd need approval to add a couple kiddie rides and automated toll booths, though.

I'd like to be overly optimistic for once. I'm hoping that since Great Adventure is only getting two kiddie rides, on top of the plethora of kiddie rides they already have, that it might allow for a bigger budget for SFA next year.

I wouldn't count on it I-Fan.

Watch those two kiddie rides probably cost a pretty penny, not to mention the cost of renovating the toll booth/entry areas.

Kiddie rides are generally in the $100,000-$150,000 range. It's really a drop in the bucket. I just don't understand why they need two more kiddie rides when they've got Looney Tunes Seaport, Bugs Bunny's National Forest, and Tango (Rockin' Tug added near El Toro).

The kiddie rides are what Mark "No More Goliaths" Shapiro wants in order to increase attendance by chasing the family audience. Since they (all of SF) have no vision to add family rides that actually do drive attendance, that's we we get. It's like wanting a Pirates of The Carribean style ride that families love, but then adding a Rockin Tug, and then wonder why the results aren't the same.

^That's the one thing we were saying at the ACE event at PKD. We need something like the Italian Job at SFA. It's a "family" ride that appeals to both younger people and older people since it doesn't go upside down and has a "family-oriented" speed. The themeing (well the stuff that actually worked) was a nice touch too.

I would have no problem with them adding a Bug's Bunny National Forest to SFA as I thought the version at SFSTL looked really nice (I only got a very small glimspe of the Great Adventure version). I would just like to see some kind of balance for the bigger kids:)

I forgot the five kiddie rides plus the supersized jungle-gym in The Golden Kingdom.

ummmmmmm isn't it rumored that looney tunes seaport was becoming wiggles world? hence that would be where the new kiddie rides would land.

What does it really matter WHAT they add if 1/2 of the rides won't be operational for most of the year anyway?? Anyone remember several years ago when they bragged about "25 new rides" and maybe about 3-4 actually opened/worked properly?? Same old Six Flags........which is a shame when they could be so much greater if they tried properly......

Italian Job is not a family ride IMO. It is a mild thrill ride.

Hershey's Reese's Cup ride, the Scooby Doo Haunted Mansions, Disney dark rides, train rides, car rides, boat rides, monorails, observation towers, etc are family rides and most american parks need more of them.*** This post was edited by super7* 10/30/2006 10:00:57 AM ***
