Busch Gardens parks get name tweak

Thanks to a new nationwide marketing campaign, the theme park formerly known as Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and before that as Busch Gardens, The Old Country, has taken a new name. The Williamsburg park is now Busch Gardens Europe, the Florida park has become Busch Gardens Africa.

To quote Animal House:

WHY NOT?

I think it was a good idea, I kind of like the names, but whatever.

Just goes to show that they should never have changed the original names to begin with, because Europe has always been referred to as, "The Old Country", and Africa has always been referred to as, "The Dark Continent".

Well maybe not always for either one, but they are definitely titles they people recognized these two areas of the world as, which is why Busch Gardens gave these parks their respective titles.

I think this is a lame idea.

No more BGT & BGW... looks like it's BGA & BGE...

I know Dawg! The first thing I thought is "what happens to our beloved acronyms!?!?!" We'll cope.

I personally think this is a good idea. Since they already have the different countries/areas in each park, it only makes sense. Have you ever often wondered why all the countries/areas in the park, when it's Busch Gardens Williamsburg or Tampa? Now it makes more sense to have Europe and Africa.

My take on the acronyms, it'll be BGW/E and BGT/A. I'll at least try to use those...I'll probably forget though ;)

I don't get it. How is this going to help with marketing. Are people suppose to think they are new parks, thus causing them to want to visit. if anything I think it will only cause confusion for non-enthusiasts. I think this is all together stupid. The name never should have been changed in the first place.

I think it's easier for everyone now. I do agree, however - The Old Country and the Dark Continent were much cooler names.

The reasons I heard for the former name change were thus:

They didn't want to offend the senior guests by referring to the park as "the OLD country"

They didn't want to offend any African Americans with the "Dark Continent" name.

Oh well, welcome to PC Land where no one can offend anyone.

It is a very bad idea, and the new simple names are lame.

Why couldn't they had hired ME to come up with something? How about Busch Gardens European Adventure and Busch Gardens African Adventure?

I know, I know...I am a genius.

I agree 100% that it can only confuse those who do not follow the park industry as much as we do, but it will get people thinking and talking about BG parks.

Adding the adventure to the end actually makes a lot of sense.

This seems like a misplaced or incomplete idea to me.

If I heard it for the first time, I would think a park called "Busch Gardens Europe" would be located in EUROPE, not Williamsburg, VA.

While it would make the title longer, Dexter's suggestion of "Adventure" at the end would *possibly* clarify that the park isn't abroad.

That is a very good idea. HOever, I think that the OLDE COUNTRY would have been a swell one too.

I wish Busch Gardens drop the new names and go back to BGW and BGT. It's a bone head ideal gone bad.

Bone head idea? Why? Why the bleepity flarb does it matter?

I saw the commercial the other day as I was getting ready for work, and noticed that they referred to the park as Busch Gardens Europe. I thought to myself, 'Hmm...they changed the name.' I then turned off the TV and I believe the thought exited my head it approximately 0.6 seconds, and returned exactly zero times until I saw this thread.

If attendance goes down, maybe I'll agree...but guess what? Not gonna happen...It's a name, folks. Git over it. :)*** This post was edited by Vater 4/14/2006 11:17:57 AM ***

Blending of the two names:

Busch Gardens: Olde Europe
Busch Gardens: Wild Africa
