CoasterBuzz Podcast #3 posted

Posted Monday, October 10, 2005 2:42 AM | Contributed by Jeff

This week, Jeff, Pat, Mike and Scott contemplate a slow news week.

  • Dan Snyder and Red Zone dis Six Flags icon Mr. Six, and other assorted stabs in the continuing takeover bid.
  • B&M track arrives for alleged Six Flags Magic Mountain flying coaster.
  • Great Wolf sells a portion of its resorts. A normal hotel industry move or lack of confidence?
  • Michael Eisner parts with the Disney board entirely. What's he up to?

You can subscribe to the podcast by way of Apple's iTunes Music Store.

Heh...

I'm hooked.

Darn you all! At least I have something to do on Sunday nite at work now :).

Edit: So, when are we getting the Video of last weeks podcast?

Oh, and nice touch on the flubbed line at the end ;).*** This post was edited by TeknoScorpion 10/9/2005 11:28:13 PM ***

Good show. I like.

One thing though that has been an issue with the last three is volume level, specifically Jeff is noticably louder than some of those from further away. Can this be fixed?

Until I can get all of these guys Marantz compact flash recorders (at $500 each) and have them send me individual audio files to mix in post, all I can really do is ride the level as I go and hope for the best. Wanna buy advertising? ;)

No :)

Assuming this is being recorded straight off an internet audio stream, surely you could do a sixty second level check before you go and set the volumes accordingly?

You think all three had volume level issues Richard? If so, then there's other issues because #2 was recorded live with all participants in the same room...

Even with "real" radio interviews where the inteviewees call in, there is level issues and thye have $$$$$$ hardware. It's just the nature of the beast of live feed recording.*** This post was edited by redman822 10/10/2005 12:59:34 PM ***

One thing that I know some podcasters do is apply compression to the audio (not squeezing bits, but mucking up the dynamic range of the sound). A lot of radio stations put these processors on microphones to make the jocks sound "loud" and then have it on the mix signal too. The sad thing is that the average radio jock could have ridiculous levels and limiter and compressor would "fix" everything.

Personally, I'm still looking at software, and may purchase something a little more heavy duty for audio editing instead of using Avid, which isn't great for that kind of thing.

Honestly, I'd have to listen again to clarify what I meant; I just know that there was at least one person I couldn't hear properly at my regular volume level without adjusting. Either way, it's a cool show, and something well suited to listening to on the way into the office!

Could Cacophony adjust stuff like these volume levels?

Sounds to me like it's that Jeff's all up on the mic and everyone else is a little more laid back ;) Seriously though, I noticed the difference too, but it was also there in #2, so I think it's definitely Jeff's mic-technique compared to all the "amateurs"

Whats with the extra music followed by outtakes? Goin' Hollywood on us already? Since there were bleeps do we get a "Coasterbuzz Podcast: Too Hot For Internet" or something in a future episode? Ah, on the other hand f*** it, right Jeff? ;)

Remember that I'm on with an actual microphone, locally, and everyone else is piped in through Skype. Skype is pretty good quality, but it's not great, and I can't control the individual levels of the conference members. Plus LG was talking into the air or something.

There has been an Easter Egg on the end of every episode.

I got word today that someone really important wants to do the show.

I have no idea why I came across like I did this time. Did the exact same thing I did when we tested and with #1.

Maybe I need to swallow the mic.
