Hmmm that's weird, you'd think they would have calculated the final speed. Oh well, too much speed is better than too little. :)

Sounds to me like this ride has fallen victim to a nasty trend in Roller Coaster design today...it seems an awful shame to waste all that potential energy. If the train comes in with all that speed, why not make the ride longer?

I was thinking the same thing. I was looking at some photos of the finished ride and it seems they could have dropped the coaster into the valley again near the end of the ride. But you have to realize that one of the reasons KP decided to rennovate the steel phantom rather then build and entirely new ride was MONEY. This is probably the main reason in not extending the ride.

I think you guys are forgetting the footprint of land this thing sits on. Remember, that was the problem with the original Phantom in the first place; it tried to do too much in too little space.

While you're sitting there wanting to use more of that leftover energy, ask yourself if you want a coaster that is fast all the way through or one that crawls back to the station. Rides as small as The Raven and big as Millennium Force are great rides because they are fast start to finish. That's a good trend!

And don't forget that a park has only a certain number of dollars budgeted for the new ride. A longer ride would cost more, and that money may not be available.

The story on the brakes:
After speaking to a high member of the KP staff(not the lemon chill guy)the brakes are on full power. The train is coming in faster than SP did. The park purchased a magnet brake that will safely slow the train down. The brake will not come in for another week or so. The second train is ready, I saw it.

True. But if what people are saying about this coaster coming in really fast is true, then perhaps they could have used a little more of that energy to create a longer and possibly even better ride. I have a hard time believing that Morgan didn't have any idea that the coaster would be hitting the station with that much speed.

I am thinking about heading over to KP tonight or tomorrow night for my first ride. If anyone else is going to be there let me know.

The ride doesn't go that fast into the station..yeah it's quick but it's not that fast. Trims will be needed so that it is 100% safe to opperate 2 trains. If they're placed at the end of the ride, the airtime should not be harmed and it better not cause PR has some of the best airtime out there. There were at least 8-10 areas of airtime on PR and almost all of the 8-10 areas produced monster airtime, especially the double dip camelback..it got me by surprise and it was just plain awsome.

Yes I do think that constant speed throughout is a good thing, but thats not all there is to a coaster. The beauty of design is that you are supposed to make a long ride that feels quicker as you progress through, even though your average speed per foot traveled is decreasing. I'm sure PR is great and I'm a huge fan of airtime, but if you are going to do something, do it right. Another out and back with a only a few more camel-backs and a helix wouldn't affect the speed sensation all that much and could be fit in. I do understand that money, especially now-a-days is hard to come by in the form of capial investment. I'm speaking in general terms when I mention this trend. Goliath, Millenium Force, etc. All great rides, but if cost and space are that much concern, I'd prefer that track be used to cruise over hills and through turns at 40 mph, rather than climbing a 250 lift hill. I shut up now.

I agree with KPGuy. A small trim brake after the last bunny hop will not be bad at all. You don't want to have the train come to an abrupt halt (the final break on Idlewild's Wild Mouse comes to mind). S:ROS at SFA has a small magnetic trim break that I never even notice. So if CoasterBoy's source has got good info, then I'll be happy.

Does anyone know if KP is planning to install on ride photos on PR? I think somewhere along the second drop or at the camelback would be a great location for the cameras.
