Hyper Coaster - What is it??

It is remoured my home park is considering an Intamin Hypercoaster. Can anyone define what this is, ie Height, Length etc. Do they generally have inversions? What are some examples of Intamin hypercoasters?

With a 200+ft drop as well. They usually don't have inversions & feature lots of airtime. track length is 5000+ft.

One foot = 0.3048 metres. 200ft = 61m.

Millennium Force can be classified as a hypercoaster. An Intamin hyper, I'd say, is just about 75 feet shorter than the Force.

Yeah MF is a big Hypercoaster! I prefer to call it a Gigacoaster.

200ft. is about 63meters. Hypercoasters generally are all aout speed and massive drops.

200ft drop is incorrect. Look at the first hyper coaster and get the definition from it. Magnum's drop is 194.8ft.

A hyper coaster is 200ft or more. The drop can be any length. As for loops, there used to be a rule that a coaster couldn't be a hyper if it had loops (heard it on a coaster special) but I am not sure.

The real point is that's it's a big coaster. Who cares how many inches above or below 200 feet it is?

Here is how I think of the different categories.

1-99 ft-Coaster
100-199 ft-Mega Coaster/Junior Hyper ie. Steel Eel
100-199 ft (with loops)-Mega Looper
200-299 ft-Hyper Coaster
200-299 ft (with loops)-Hyper Looper
300-399 ft-Giga Coaster

All of them are different, so the category Hyper Coaster is different than the Hyper Looper category.

And by the way, all these terms are just made up for marketing. For me, they just make classifying coasters easier.

I would have to say that to classify a coaster as OFFICIALLY a hyper or giga-coaster, the coaster must not have any inversions and instead, depend on speed for the main thrill...

If it had any loops, then it'd be called a 'steel looper' instead of a 'hyper'.

What would you call a coaster that is under 200 feet but has no inversions and is steel? Just a steel coaster? What if it was 180 feet? I'd still call it a hyper... possibly a mini-hyper?

Ok, before I posted... looks like I have been corrected... as the term appears to be a "Mega Coaster". But is that what you call it, PT300, or is that the official terminology?

Actually, doesn't B&M refer to their hypers (Raging Bull, Apollo's Chariot, Nitro) as "mega coasters?"

Intamin refers to their hypers as mega-coasters
B&M called Apollo and Bull "speed coasters"
It really doesn't matter what their called!
