Worlds of Fun Construction

There's been some rumors floating around that WoF already has little orange flags in the ground so I packed up the camera (and winter coat) and went to see for myself this afternoon.

It seems as if the entire back of the park is loaded with flags. You can only see a couple from the main walkways. To see most of them you have to ride the train. They are mainly concentrated in the woods behind Camp Gonnagitcha. There are a few more underneath Boomerang's two lifts and then a bunch of flags over at Fury of the Nile have been marked.

The GCI rumor has been floating since Renegade was announced.

That area is only about 15% flat. The rest is a ravine with a creek running right through the middle of it.

Zambezi Zinger's Revenge!!!! <-- would prefer that to anything else at that park.

Like Jason said, the area where the flags are located is extremely wooded and hilly. If they were to build a GCI there it would require A LOT of earth moving to make it level enough to accomodate the cement slabs, and frankly with as much land as the park has out front that is flat (not to mention the OExpress lot) it would be lucrative to even suggest that they would spend the extra money to flatten this parcel of land for a GCI.

This will be a steel coaster. The question now is, will it be B&M or Intamin that is building it.

Matt - just because you have moved away, doesn't mean you have to hate on the park now. BTW, how is PA treating you? Do you enjoy the lucrative tolls they charge on their turnpike? ... or the fact they can't make a straight road in that state to save their lives.

Jason Hammond, maybe this is just the Swoosh in me coming out, but looking at this photo pre-Rengegade it sure looks like it to me that Renegade's land was A LOT flatter then the land in question at Worlds of Fun. I mean they have a road and even a graveyard there were as WOF has a creek and a ravine where the flags are. Yep, that is definitely "just as flat".

Nah. The new steel's gonna be a Verkoma. A nice flyer would be fun.

Dude, what makes you think I'm hating on WoF? I am extremely excited about this "news"! More than anything I wish they would put a coaster in that area reminiscent to Zinger and it likely would be my favorite ride there; just imagine the possibilities. Removing that Anton masterpiece left a bigger void than any of the other changes at the park and I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. I just hope a quality ride isn't sacrificed for an expensive technological gimmick.

Also, why does the land have to be flattened to make a woodie? You totally lost me there. Obviously the park has several places with flatter land, but maybe they want a terrain woodie. :)

And yes, PA has crappy roads, annoying tolls and taxes, but the scenery is much nicer. And seriously dude, you're really going a little far, defending your park, which wasn't under attack in the first place. lol

Thunderhead was definitely built on some hilly terrain.
why couldn't GCI build another on hilly terrain?

iwof, I never claimed to be an expert. And event though the grade change might not have been as dramatic, I find it difficult to see the extent of the grade change, from an Ariel shot. You're only basing this on the fact that it would be less work than a wooden coaster? Not putting in anything would be less work than building a steel coaster. Why don't they just do that instead?

And while we're at it, why can't it be Zamperla or anyone else? ;)

Am I the only one that think's that Patriot would have been even better if they used some of the terrain from OE?

A nice terrain coaster, either steel or wood, would really utilize the ravine, IMO.

Yeah, Patriot likely would have been better with some terrain features, but really, how many coasters wouldn't be? :)

The flags are looking like survey markings more than footing markings. The marking by the Nile are indicating tree removal (most likely due to illness or ride obstruction). Worlds of Fun may be forced to reroute drainage lines. The caves/tunnels may have something to do with some of the markings as well.
