I was looking at the new HRP site and checking out the interactive map and this thing immediately caught my eye. I thought it was a Ferris Wheel inside the layout of the coaster but soon realized I couldn't bring up a name for it and that it was part of the coaster. When you click on 'more info' the description of Maximum RPM reads in part:
"Dominating the attraction is an industrial looking Ferris-wheel-type steel structure that lifts cars and riders up into place for their roller-coaster ride drop, like a revolver cartridge chamber loads a gun."
Looks pretty neat to me. :)
The ACE event we had at Myrtle Beach that weekend offered us a nice question/answer session with HRP VP of Operations. He didn't deny this prototype could very well be a maintenance nightmare.
Here are the links I posted.

There's also been an unoffical site called Discover Mrytle Beach that's been covering construction and providing photo updates on a regular updates to that News & Rumors site.
I think one of my favorite things I've seen so far is the front of the trains for Led Zepplin. They look like the front of an old-time blimp.
The whole hard rock/music thing is a great idea in general...although I have to admit it's kind of hard to get excited about something like a Moody Blues dark ride.
I think that theming something as '70 music isn't quite as simple as theming something to the old west, or an abandoned mine, or a haunted house, or whatever. It could be really creative and work really well, or it could be filled of far too many in-jokes, and only be great for a few people, while the rest of us are all left wondering what the point was.
We'll see. I have high hopes for them, and I hope they make it there!
I have been dreaming about this concept since I was a kid.....rock and roll, coasters, and the beach....KICK ASS!
I can't wait to see the place. Of course I will feel like it was built just for me, like the R&R Hall Of Fame and Museum :P
ROCK ON! :)

Thanks for the info guys. I don't recall hearing, seeing or reading anything. I probably just wasn't paying attention. The whole hard rock/music thing is a great idea in general...although I have to admit it's kind of hard to get excited about something like a Moody Blues dark ride.
Don't worry about it, you were probably too busy doing Podcasts and defending controversial business practices in the forum threads:)
I agree that the Moody Blues ride might be a little bit odd and melancholy. I'm imaging a dark ride with lots of blacklights, lava lamps, and flourescent velvet posters, but what do I know at this point?

You mean... a zeppelin? ;)
They did look pretty sweet.
