In my defense, the loading was so slow that I was stuck in the brake run for a long time, too long for only one train to load. I think what fooled me though was the fact that we came to a complete stop, sat for a few seconds, then moved forward furthur into the storage garage, then sat even longer. Little did I know it was just lousy Great Adventure staff.

Not to beat a dead horse, but there are signs posted through out the line which state that there is a chance of rollback and that it is a normal occurance. Not an everyday occurance mind you, but that it does happen.

He also describes triangular three-rail track, for which Dragster has none.
Yeah, I guess that's how I interpreted it, too. But if that's what he meant, then he's saying a track rail snapped, not a support, which would be more extreme and obviously didn't happen.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!

LMAO great line!

Well, tomorrow's Wednesday, and I'll make it over the hump.

Maybe next time you should add things like: ....and as the train descended backward toward the station, the screams and moans of the soon dead could be heard for miles.

hey hey everyone...

new to the forum... and newly popped cedar point virgin....

Was able to get the park for the first time the first weekend of August... did TTD first off and loved it...

though on the sunday it ended up closing before we could get on it again.. probably around 6pm it closed... not sure if it was technical or perhaps they close it down early on sundays (yup i'm a n00b, too) ... but I'm pretty sure the upper winds were going at a pretty good clip too...

i guess if you're pushing the limits building the tallest/fastest (not anymore I realise) you're gonna have to deal with the limits of the coaster...

HAHAH nonono

First coaster ever (Other than the Ghoster Coaster at PCW... geezuz i'm already picking up the acronyms):

SPACE MOUNTAIN, Disney World. I was 8... and I was screaming in fear when I got off it, and every other ride through our 3-day visit to the grounds, I compared to Space mountain before I got on and refused to ride them... even all the epcot stuff... needless to say I was not a happy camper.

I think I avoided all things amusement-except for the odd Ferris Wheel or Strawberries ride at a carnival-until I was on a school trip in grade 8 to PCW... in which peer pressure put me on Dragon Fire, and from then on it was game over. I was hooked!

I've always wanted to come to Cedar Point and I finally had my chance...Loved it loved it... and i'm even trying to convince a friend of mine to come down again for BooBuzz!

That's funny, we were there the evening of the 13th, all of the 14th, and all of the 15th, and the only time I saw it not running is when it was windy and raining on the 14th.... and then a 10 minute reset on the 15th. I was amazed at how WELL it was running; just as good as any other ride in the park!

My teenage daughter was in the next car to launch when Top Thrill Dragster went down. What happened was not a rollback at all. The car in front of her got stuck at the top of the arch. The magnetic brakes accidently engaged at the top and the car was stuck up there. The ride was closed down for the rest of the evening so they could inspect all of the cars to make sure they would function properly.

There are no brakes at the top. There are no moving parts on the brakes on the trains- the only thing to inspect is "are the /huge/ magnets still on the bottoms of the trains?"

All I know is what the technicians explained to those that they were unloading from the cars that were loaded. That and the anouncements that were going on at the time that "Those who are stuck at the top of Top Thrill, we will be up to get you out of the car" *** Edited 8/24/2006 1:13:57 AM UTC by coasterluvinmama***

My "suspension of disbelief" fuse just blew.

"We're getting you OUT of the coaster", at 420'....someone was messin' with you... ;)

Oh, and like John-Michael said, there's no brakes at the top...

There also aren't any loudspeakers at the top of the ride. Furthermore, anyone who would evacuate up there is nuts. It's not built for that. An evacuation up there would take /hours/ because the train would have to be chained down to prevent it from not being at the top anymore and everyone would have to take the elevator ride down one person at a time..

You weren't getting accurate information from whoever was telling you.

Well then you're making up stories. The parts you're claiming to exist don't exist, and the "breakdown" you're talking about can't happen. Anyway, the ride's back up, so why is this an issue?

I wouldn't be so quick to say "You're making up stories" as it's easy to be mislead or just not understand what's going on in a situation like that.

Let's start with what we know happens. If there's a problem with the ride, the trains get evacuated. Okay, that's about it so far. But let's keep going anyway.

What /could/ have been happening? Consistant rollbacks (did you actually see the train stopped at the top for more than a few seconds, mama?), breakdown, weather. (Anyone else have other options?)

Nobody has ever been evacuated from the top of Dragster and nobody ever will. In the extremely rare case where a train does happen to balance itself atop the tower, all it would take is a nudge from maintanance in either direction and it would either roll back or fly down the other side.

Also, through my experience, the maintainance guys don't usually talk to guests. I have, however, experienced times where the ride crew will simply make stuff up about what's going on because it's less boring than the standard "We're down due to technical/mechanical difficulties." Being down due to tech. diff. is always the /official/ reason for mechanical or technical reasons. Anyone who says otherwise or gives more detail than that could find themselves in trouble.

Anyway, whatever happened did result in your daughter being evacuated from the ride down at the ready position, but did not result in a train at the top getting evacuated. There were also no brakes that engaged at the top. The trains didn't need to be inspected to make sure the brakes were working as there are no moving parts- if the magnets are there, they're working.
