Favorite Woody

What is your favorite woody and why? And in your opinion what makes a good woody?

My favorite woodie would have to be The Beast at PKI. It's speed, elements, and length, combined with the classic feel of the ride make it my favorite woodie, however Son Of Beast comes in at a close second for the same reasons, in addition to the loop.

In my opinion a good woodie consists of speed, drops, airtime, the roar of the train, and a certain amount of roughness that can only come from a woodie.

The Legend at Holiday World.
It has 3 great drops. The first drop is a straight untill about the last 25 feet then it curves to the left with great air that picks you off the seat and sets you to the right of the car. The second big drop is a curving drop like the Wildcat at Hershey delivering strong laterals. The third great drop has AWSOME floating air to the bottom like the camel humps on Steel Force. It also has strong laterals thruout the course as well, feeling as if the car is going to rip from the track. It also contains 4 tunnels and great double helix that fights the track the entire way.
It was a very close choice between the Legend and Knoebels Twister for my #1 and #2 woods. Twister packs the same fight the track ride and strong laterals.

The Beast, The Beast, The Beast!!! 35 acres, 7400 feet long, and fast all the way through I love this ride.

I like a woodie (or any ride) to keep my interest, and the Beast keeps you guessing. I wish I could ride it again "for the first time." Will ride Sonny soon and compare.

Gotta ride 'em all!

I did like Mean Streak, but after riding SOB I changed my mind about Mean Streak. I'll have to go with Son of Beast. I did like the height, the speed, the 2 helixes, and definately the loop. Son of Beast's 214ft. drop was intense. It did have that Vortex feel on the drop though, so I was kinda used to it.

Can you take me higher? (CREED)

ROAR at SFA. It has an absolutely killer first drop, some great latterals, and has developed some pronounced pops of airtime in the past year.

Six Flags America IS a Six Flags park!

Mine would have to be the Viper at SFGAm. Constant sharp turns, good airtime because there are no trim brakes and the fact that alot of the track goes through the structure giving you the feeling your arms are going to get chopped off. From start to finish this ride satisfys.

LIGHTNING RACER!
It has an awesome racing/dueling element, huge 60 degree banks, a great tunnel that you duel in, and the most beutiful scenary and station!

Shivering Timbers. This may change after I ride Villian and The Beast and SOB this summer though!

The beast at night. When it's dark you can't see where your going and the tunnels are pitch black. Awesome!

I can't say really because I haven't been on any really good woodies. Only Mean Streak. I won't even submit that. But I am getting on Villain, SOB, Beast, and maybe Shivering Timebers, so I wil be able to say.

Knoebel's Phoenix. Airtime, airtime, airtime! And I really like The Legend at night.

I'm a huge fan of The Beast, but I think SOB has edged it just slightly. It's definitely the most intense wooden coaster.

Right Now I'll have to say Viper @ SFGAm is my favorite. It's not the highest fastest or any other -est but it is a good fun ride. Nice air, great headchoppers all in a classic cyclone style. Though if I had the chance to ride any woodie out there, I would love to check out Shivering Timbers. That looks like a GREAT coaster (one day I'll make it to MA!).

Until this year, the Coney Island Cyclone. Now, The Villain is giving it a run for its money...

I need to get back to Coney Island to make sure ;)

Other top woodies in my book include Kennywood's 3, CP's Blue Streak pre-modifications, and The Beast.

I know you said #1, but there are so many good ones, so I'll submit my top ten (what I look for most is airtime, but there are countless factors):
1-Phoenix (Knoebels)
2-Rampage (Visionland)
3-Screechin' Eagle (Americana)
4-Raven (Holiday World)
5-Shivering Timbers (Michigan's Adventure)
6-Texas Giant (SFOTexas)
7-Comet (Hersheypark)
8-Timber Wolf (Worlds of Fun)
9-Giant Dipper (Sanata Cruz Boardwalk)
10-Jack Rabbit (Kennywood)

And there are so many other great ones just outside the top ten - like Thunderbolt at Kennywood, the Comet at Great Escape, the Wildcat at Hershey, the Hurricane at Myrtle Beach, the Blue Streak at Cedar Point, the Thunderhawk at Dorney ... so many coasters, so little time.

It would absolutely have to be PKI's Beast. Nothing can top the classic thrills of this coaster. The line is always long, but it's worth the wait. It's so long, and on every hill you get that awesome feel of flying out of your seat. It just keeps going and going and going. I love it!

I know I'm going to hear it after saying this, but I'm not a big fan of woodies. I like to be flipped around and spun so much that when I get off a ride, I don't know which way is up. Saying that, I have to say that of the woodies I've ridden the Gemini is my favorite. She was the first coaster I've ever conquered. I like the interaction between the trains, I always try to slap hands with the people in the other train. The Beast was a great coaster, but the Gemini holds a special place in my heart. I'm sure you all feel the same way about the first coaster you've ever rode.
