Question About Search Function

There's a question here in a closed topic about adding smileys. Before going to the provided link, I tried to use the search function several times to find it myself, but couldn't. What word(s) did Neil search for, since "smiley" apparently wasn't used?

I know other people have made disparaging posts about people starting new threads rather than search for old ones; now I'm wondering if a few of those folks tried and just didn't use the right words...

I used the word "emoticon" only because I knew exactly what thread I was referencing. "Smiley" or "smile" would have turned up this thread as well.

Or just click the little "help" link right next to the box you type your next post in.

Answers to questions for the rest of the site can often be found by clicking "help" near the top of the page on which ever page you need help on. The track record is an example of this.

Acutally, "smiley" did *not* turn up that thread on either time that I tried it. When I tried "smiley", what the search function brought up was the closed thread that prompted my question, and a second thread that did not indicate how to make the "smileys."

Just checked out the 'help' option and am not clear on how this would have helped me find "smileys" without knowing that I should have been searching for "emoticons."

"To generate the funny little faces, type these characters to get the smilies" isn't helpful?
