Couldn't they also buy (if they don't already own) that vacant parking lot behind Chang. That's a pretty big area, and from what I've seen looks like something they could clean up and use if they wanted to.

Its probably to replace the loop like Troy said (although being a newbie to the site, shouldn't expect people to take what he says at face value right away because many newbies have information that is far from reliable.) The color makes sense- Tidal Wave/Greezed Lightning was painted bright green and light blue it's last year or two at PGA- and since that coaster hasn't been moved around as much as SFKK's ride (which operated at SFGAm and SFOG previously), it's probably in better condition. Dueling Schwarzkopf shuttles is certainly an intriguing idea but I doubt it's going to happen.

Nope.... it's owned by the State Fairgrounds. Heck, so is half the land that Chang sits on. And the State Fair board isn't about to sell off the land when they can lease it to the park and make money from them hand over fist.

And I doubt a company that is talking about selling off land to reduce debt is going to embark on a quest to acquire more of it, whether it is needed or not.

If the park plans right, I think they can make do with what they have.

I really do think the whole "sell off excess land" thing applies to *2* parks in particular, and off site properties like waterparks (on-site waterparks work much better anyway).

Which parks? I know Great Adventure has a ton of extra land... maybe SFA? Does SFDL have a lot of land?

Great Adventure and SFA were the two parks I had in mind. I also think Snyder will sacrifice one *major* park if they can un-load it, as opposed to a bunch of smaller ones that can easily be converted into the family-type parks he wants.

These are just my personal predictions though. I could be way off base. I'm really just reading between the lines.

Selling off land is fine, However the land must be desirable in the first place. Not a lot of developers look at putting condo's next to rollercoasters. A park like SFDL that kinda sits off the beaten path don't even have buisness interest like McDonals or something.

So yeah, You can gain some capital, But first it's gotta be desirable to someone.

Have you not looked around PKI and PCW lately? They are literally becoming surrounded by residential development.

PCW is very shocking.

So I'd say that the park aspect may not be as much of a deterrant as you think.

Not yet, but sooner or later someone is bound to complain, and that complaint will get louder and louder. Look at the problems that Dorney and BGW have!

I'm not saying that will definitely be a problem but it does seem to be the norm rather than the exception.

You buy a house next to a drag strip and then complain about the noise.

Shaggy, Im fully aware of the housing of development around PCW and PKI, But to be fair. Its a very fast growing area. SFDL however isn't. It sits out amongst cow pastures and grape farms. Maybe someday it will fetch a pretty penny, Bur right now, Im guessing not.

I bet you most of the people that live beside the park actually go there on a regular basis too. Common sense, why would you buy a house beside an amusement park if you know it will be a problem, common sense! PCW has houses litereally 500ft away from the park, it is a shame they sold that land & i bet they regret it now.

The airport had the two main parallel runways (17/34) open in '98, but none since then, and haven't announced any more to be built at this point. They closed one runway (1/19) way back then, but it wasn't in the flight path of SFKK. And they're currently extending a runway, but doubt an extension would make land available.

The airport is on the other side of the highway from SFKK. Closing a runway wouldn't clear land on the park side.

Unless, of course, we're talking about clearances.

And it's possible runways can have had precision approach lighting on the other side of a nearby road.
