Halloween - Who's The Best?

It's a bit warmer in Orlando and LA, too. CP in late October at 2am with a 90mph wind in your face isn't that fun at all.

HHN gets my vote. Go on a Thursday or Sunday if the Friday and Saturday crowds get to you. The intricate level (and budget) of the scare mazes need to be experienced.

Knott's isn't in Los Angeles! It's in The OC (Orange County). But still, anywhere in California at 2 AM at this time of year is still warmer than Sandusky ;)

Sadly i havent been to any of the parks thaty have been mentioned as the best.
But from what i have seen on tv shows/video i can tell that SFGAM is medicore at best.

After skuller spoke of "indapented" parks, I'd consider that a very minor offense.

I can't imagine anything being better than Universal, but I haven't been to Knotts so I can't say. CP's haunted houses are pretty lame, but the fright zone is awesome, so it balances out - HalloWeekends is an excellent time to go to the park, but just don't expect it to be scary. PKI's FearFest was good its first year but got progressively worse every successive year, and more crowded to the point of being worthless. GL did have a half-decent start last year, perhaps they will improve more in time.

IOA is the way to go. Last year was supposedly (this is hearsay) not as great as before as they utilized both parks and let more people in, both losing "effect" and gaining more lines. This year they are back to just IOA and I am hoping less people. I'm going next weekend, with a front-of-line pass on Friday night, regular pass on Sunday night, and getting the heck away from there on Saturday. We shall see.

I can't see them allowing less people in. It seems that HHN is a huge money-maker for the park and they seem more interested in making a ton of money than giving the people that paid an unforgettable time. I wish they'd charge twice as much and allow half as many people in.

As much as I loved HHN, the crowds did get to be too much for me, so I've been getting my 'Weening on over at BGT's Howl-O-Scream. Not quite up to the level of IoA to be sure, but the wait times were WAY better, the "crowds" virtually non-existent....and the price was lower...

MIGHT make it to both this year, but I'm totally *phocused* on that park in PA right now... :)

That *other PA park*, Da Wood, puts on an amazing event as well. Heard great things about LC's Haunted Graveyard, haven't been though.

And what park might that be? If it's the park I'm thinking of, we can meet up... you know, to make up for my not being around when you came to Joisey in July?

My memory might be a little blurry but I found BGT's event to be just as good as IOA's. In fact, I think I liked it MORE because the "jungle" feel of BGT worked a lot better than the ultra-developed feel of IOA. That's not to say HHN is bad, it's just that, all things considered, I think Howl-O-Scream is the way to go.

Too bad our Orlando trip over Thanksgiving weekend will cause us to miss out on all those Halloween events, but it's a small price to pay for seven days in the GOOD theme park capital of the world!

The GP generally stayed home after Labor Day at *most* parks...then Knott's started their Halloween thing, now it's all over the place.

The upside? More revenue for the parks! :)

The downside? Well, to some degree there's crowds at parks that didn't used to have them after schoolkids went back to their cells, er, classrooms. Small price to pay...and mostly limited to the "Haunted house market"...

Where did people go for haunted houses, etc., BEFORE the amusement parks picked up on the largely untapped market. I see a few of them at "resort areas", but NOTHING like what the parks can do for the month of October....

Perhaps I'm looking forward to PPP too much? ;)

As far as I am concerned October is the PERFECT month to visit any park, at least in this neck of the woods. :-) (PA/OH/WV/KY/VA)

Yeah Tina October is probably the BEST month of all to visit parks simply for the cooler temps I like! I wish parks were open through the week and I would plan all my vacations then.

Before parks started doing the Halloween events, a lot of towns and cities had paid admission haunted houses, hayrides, haunted woods, etc. I know there are a lot that still do.

If it's going to be scary, I personally prefer the dark rides rather than walk through type attractions.
