^That is funny stuff. I have never been to a Winterfest. What all will be available to do? I can't listen as I am at work with no speakers.

Gemini and Jeff:

I think your making fun of my statement that breaking the wooden coaster record that the Beast holds would not be classy. I still think it would not be a classy move, and really don't find that joke to be funny.

Anyway winterfest could be cool, as long as some of the rides are open. I did fill out the survey about it, and feel that it might be worth a day if some of the indoor rides like tomb raider or flight of fear would be open. Still it will be really cold and probably not a whole lot to do. It would be nice if season pass holders got in free, but that might be wishful thinking.

Rollergator:

if you read the thread about how I felt it was not classy, I explained that going for the longest record sometimes is not good for business. I questioned whether the extra cost to make it longer justified the advantage that it gives to advertising. I was not sure, and feel that if the record has held up for this long, it must not have been a smart business decision to go for the longest wooden. I mean saying your ride is the tallest and fastest is very easy to market, however longest I don't think draws people in.

Back on topic, bringing back winterfest is an interesting move. I am not sure if I would have made it, but they did have a online survey, and the guest that filled it out must have been all for it. Of course if it is not that successful like it was in the past, you can just not continue it for the next season. I am sure it will be all clear on whether it has a chance to work, once they release the details with the press release.

So what is winterfest and what rides if any are open. Yes I know it was asked above, but I saw no replys.

Thanks

If I remember right, not many of the rides were open. Food stalls, entertainment, the Eiffel Tower turned into a Christmas Tree. Seems to me they had carriage rides. Did they turn the fountains into a skating rink?

Now with indoor attractions like FOF and TR, they might have a few rides running. It won't be along the lines of SFOT, though, where about half the park stays open.

Funny how Holiday World gets the Pilgrims and Kings Island gets Santa.

Here is a link of the last Winter Fest Map from 1991

First time poster here, so forgive me in advance. I have fond memories of A Country Christmas at Opryland. The lights, carolers, ice skating. There was a lifesize nativity in white that was placed over a water feature, the reflection was incredible. Any way would love to do Winterfest sounds great. One other thing, the hot cider seemed to be much better then than now.

I got it too, Jeff. You're not the only smart one here!

And Tina, closer? Cincy is 6 hours from me, Dollywood is 4...

No, they're getting an Edward Scissorhands themed area where this guy makes snow with his scissorhands all day long whilst making ice sculptures. Till he accidentally hurts some kid and gets banished back to the Phantom Thea...err...Um...Scooby's Castle.

Rides at Winterfest included wagon rides, the Carrousel, and the train (travelled thru Christmas light displays.) The fountain was drained, decorated with enormous trees and a rink was installed at one end. Lots of shopping and crafts on Intl Street, a big Christmas show in the Fest Haus. Guests could walk back to the train station on that side of the park, and to Coney on the other. The rest of the park was blocked off. The Eiffel Tower was transformed into the worlds largest Christmas Tree.

One year we absolutely froze our asses off.

So that's how it was, anyway. What is in store for the new Winterfest we'll have to wait and see. I'm glad it's coming back.

The last year that Winterfest was held my dad was going to take me.

One of the ladies at the church my mom and I went to was getting married that same weekend and my mom made me go to the wedding instead of PKI.

I cried a lot.
