Most mistake coaster ever
How can the #1 rated coaster in the world for 11 years running (Magnum) be considered a mistake? While Maggie is not my personal favorite, it is one HELL of a great ride, and easily the biggest surprise (I did not think it would live up to the hype) of my CP trip in 2000.
I think the big coaster mistakes are the woodies with drops over 150', MS, Herc, SoB & Rattler. Go ride Shivering Timbers and THEN see if you EVER feel the need to build one larger than 125'. ***side note*** Intamin's Colossos might be the exception to the rule, it looks like Intamin did LOTS of homework before attempting something of that scale.

Before Jeff says it, I say none. Each visitor to a park has their own idea of enjoyment and likes and dislikes. Just because we don't like it because it's not fast enough, high enough, thrilling enough or whatever enough. There are probably just as many people who look forward to riding the ones we don't care for.
I personally still question the parks that spend millions of dollars on large coasters steel or wood and then just don't maintain them. Like any other machine they need maintenance to run year in and out like they did when they were first built. It's not a coasters fault that after a few years of abuse it falls out of favor because it gets rough or whatever it's the parks fault for letting it get into that condition.

Regardles, lets take into acount KoasterKings opinion, that these rides do "suck" and they were a mistake. (which as noted is not the case).
So my understanding, is that if a coaster is built, and it is bested in someway in either record or ride it was a mistake, and hence should have never been built.
They should just stop building coasters now since they will be beat!

The original question needs to be re-examed. Canynon Blaster asked what coasters we're a mistake, from the beginning. And the answer turned into tearing down existing coasters that are out of date.
This can't be done, they cost too much money to build.
Yeah, I wish CP could lengthen the first hill of MF and make it break the record, but it's not going to happen.
Which would take us into the next point, rides that are too rough and need to be fixed. We're finding that barrel rolls and loops cause excessive head banging. The public has voted and the ride engineers are listening, which is why we have a new Phantom's Revenge and BGW is thinking about new trains on Drachen Fire. I bet that's what the hold up is, they'd have to take out the loops even if they put in new trains. Look at the new Batwing, no barrel rolls at the end. I don't care for them, a helix is the better choice, I bet Batwing gets good reviews.

The cars bottom out on each hill causing your head to "bounce". Your brain is literally bouncing around inside of your skull. SOB does this at the bottom of the big hills, but they're working on it, and people say the ride is better this year. Mean Streak does it a little bit, but Grizzly is the king of the bounce.

Koaster King's comments aren't worth dignifying with a response, so I won't.
There aren't many coasters I'd flat out refuse to ride again. As for mistakes, I would agree that huge woodies were probably not good ideas from the start, though I base that entirely on Mean Streak, the only really big one I've been on.

Hmm, I agree with Koaster King, barely. The only CP coaster I've been on that I DIDN'T like was Iron Dragon. Magnum was a bit bumpy, but the rest I rode (Mean Streak, Raptor, Mantis, CCMR) were pretty good. And I think that Mad Mouse at VF was a mistake. It's boring. Boring. Boring. I've gone faster on my bike.
None of you understood my point *at all.* My point wasn't:
1)These are bad coasters(I love most of them)
2)These coasters should be removed(NO!)
3)These coasters should have never been made(most actually led to some of the greater coasters)
4)That records are the only thing worth going on(my fave coasters are Hulk and SROS at SFNE-what record do they have?)
5)I hate CP! I'm very biased! Don't touch me with any of that I love CP because it's CP crap! (what? I don't think so. I already know PKI is better so it doesn't matter. ;))
My point was that Cedar Point jumped onto getting that record too fast. They had to get one of the first:gigas, hypers, inverts, suspendeds, B&M stand-ups-which leaves them behind many parks with better of those to come. The next parks will try to improve upon that design so CP is left behind. This was nothing against CP. It's one of my fave parks. I'm saying that getting the coasters so quicky may have been a mistake for CP, not for us or anybody else. It may be a good quick marketing decision, but is it going to be the greatest in the future. I guess I misunderstood the question and you misunderstood me. I hope this helps.

I disagree with your second explanation. Yes, Cedar point is notorious for height, but they usually wait to introduce a new kind of coaster because they do not like clones. There were a few Batman's around before Raptor came in and dominated the inverted world, allowing others to follow. There were plenty of Togo Stand-Ups around and a few B&M's before CP put in a killer Stand-Up, again allowing others to follow. No one could touch Magnum for years. Look how similar Nitro's layout is to Magnum.
CP is lacking in a lot of new coasters...launched, mega-looper, flying to name a few. But they will get them one day and again raise the standards. Your example is pointless because you could use a lot of parks to define your example. Stealth was a great concept, but in a few years it could be small and outdated. Is Revolution at SFMM a piece of garbage because the looper was redefined? Is Riddler's Revenge a better stand-up because it is a few feet bigger than Mantis? Is Batman at SFMM a bad inverted because Raptor is bigger?

CP should have waited for the design of these types of coasters to be mastered. They would've been able to see what the best elements on each coaster were and tell what they wanted to add accordingly. So Magnum's the oldest hyper(steel). Now there's Goliath, the 3 S:ROS, Nitro, Titan, MF, Sttel Force, Mamba, Steel Eel(junior), Wild Thing,... Now tell me which is the roughest? The least unique design(wooden out-and-back ring a bell)? The ugliest train?(I may be the only one who thinks Maggie's is second to only Wild Thing, but Ok) Same goes for Iron Dragon and Raptor(in way of new elements). They're great rides, but was the TIME right for all of these to come? Again, I don't know if you understand my point, but I felt I should mention it anyway. Thanks.

That is the best poll Rob, but when is he going to start the Steel poll 2000 up? I can't wait for that one mainly to see where SROS and MF landed. And I wasn't asking for anything, giant rider. I want no one to be pissed off whatsoever. And that's very rude that most of you didn't respect that. Cedar Point is the best park in the world. The only one that come close is IOA.
I think that they should get rid of the Double Loop at SFWoA.It is incredibly horrible. It is always walk on to get on the ride because nobody likes it. If they would have demolished it, i bet they could have put a flyin coaster in, instead of making it in the middle of a parking lot. Maybe they could have put a good S&S freefall or somethin, i dunno

Hey... I like popularity contests. I won't pretend that Coasters' Choice is anything but.
Hawker's poll is a good idea in theory, but the sample size is entirely too small to be meaningful. How can a top ten ride be rated as such by fewer than ten people? It's a good start, but I think you need a lot larger of a sample. Maybe he needs to reach a bigger audience (hmmm... who has one of those?).

I agree about that Jeff. Usually I make a print out and highlight the ones less than like 15 with blue so I can't see them well. Then I highlight the ones from other countries with green, because I can't get to any of those soon. Last, I highlight my 10 favorites with yellow and my 10 least with pink. Why I told you that, I don't know. I'm weird(as you can tell by my above posts). :( :p

Oh, I'm still confused by Koaster King. If Cedar Point should have waited until the technology was perfect, when would they build the coasters? It's easy to say that in hindsight, but at the time the rides were commissioned, who knew when or where the technology would be 'perfect?'

I thought the python at Busch Gardens was the worst. I rode it, because the landscape around it, makes it beautiful. Then i rode it and the head cushions ripped my hair out. The train got moving 3/4 of the way down the drop and then the turn broke my neck. Don't even get me started on the corckscrews. They killed. It was fun looking down at the flowers, but they hurt like a motha. Then the Villian at SFO, i don't know if it was the rain, or if it also left massive bruises on my legs. It was a great ride but i don't even remember it because all i was worrying about was the well being of my legs. Those were my two worst experiences on a coaster.
